Re: Fire Damage to Roof Structure at 1116 Industry Drive, Tukwila, Washington Gentlemen: We understand from your office that there is a second 8 x 18 timber roof.girder that was cut by firemen. This beam is re- ported to have a vertical cut at the top of the beam which is 4" deep on one side and 1 -1/2" deep on the other side, located 18" from one end. If this is the case, the beam is overstressed in shear and re- quires a new W14 x 26 steel beam below it for support. The connections for this beam will be the same as the previous W14 x 26 beam which you installed.
