In response to questions raised by the 'Fire "Department of
Tukwila we would like to further define the use of this
space. The tenant will be the Quaker State Oil Refining
Corp., Pacific Coast Region, 1100 Fairoaks Avenue, South
Pasadena, California. The use of this space will be for
the storage of oil products in closed containers only.
It is our understanding that this usage classifies the
space for F-2 occupancy in accordance' with the U.B.C.
In the interest of expediting this building permit, please

Dear Mr. Ruppert:
In reviewing the above mentioned project plans, please note
the following items:
1. Per UBC Section 1001, this occupancy should
be defined as an E -2. Per Table 5 -C, and E -2
of 3 -N construction in a Fire Zone 3, may be
Only 3733 sq. ft. The area increase allowed
for sprinklers is not allowed per Section 506(c)2.
In view of these items, I suggest to you that
the building permit be revoked.
2. If allowed, the tenant separation walls shall
be one -hour construction per UBC Standard 9 -1,
Sec. 9.125(b)5.
All doors,. including exits shall be identified
per OSHA, Section 1910.37(q).
Per UFC Sec. 10.104 (b), "All doors in or lead-
ing to exits shall be maintained openable from
the inside without the use of a key or any
special knowledge or effort at all times when
the building or area served thereby is occupiedr.

The sprinkler system must be extended to cover
the office area. Also, hose station coverage
shall be maintained. (May necessitate adding
one more hose station).
Four 2 gallon pressurized water fire extinguishers
are required. Two dry chemical extinguishers rated
at least 20 -BTC are required.
Per OSHA requirements, extinguishers with a gross
weight of 40 pounds or less shall be hung so that
the top of the extinguisher is not higher than 60
inches above the floor.

Extinguishers weighing more than 40 pounds, shall .
be hung so that the top of the unit is not higher
than 42 inches above the floor.
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in
plain view (if at all possible). If not in plain
view, they shall be identified with a sign stating,
"FIRE EXTINGUISHER" with an arrow pointing.
When extinguishers are hung on posts or columns,
the post or column shall be painted bright red for
a distance of 12 inches down from the ceiling (or .roof ).
If the color of extinguishers is other than red,
they shall be provided with a background or mounting
board, red in color, not less than 2 square feet in
size.
