All items are repeats of those from the original plans review on March 29, 1974. 1. Per Section 3305(1) of the UBC, "Where there is' enclosed usable space under stairs the walls and soffits of the enclosed space shall be protected on the enclosed side as required for one -hour fire - resistive construction..." 2. Walls to be fj _re stopped per UBC Sec. 2517(f) . 3. Hose stations are required per City Ordinance #730. 4. Fire extinguisher type, quantity and placement shall be per NFPA #10. . TUKWILA, WASHINGTON 98067 Fire Prevention Bureau May 10, 1974 Re: 2nd Plans Review for Doce's When, in the opinion of the Fire Prevention Bureau, building contents or operations therein are of a hazardous nature, additional extinguishers (in excess of NFPA requirements) may be required. A Roof Access hatch and ladder shall be provided from the inside of the building. Ladder to meet standards. Protective' guard posts or curds are required around . all gas meters, electrical vaults, sprinkler valves and hydrants. OSHA A spray booth, when installed, shall meet all require- ments of UFC, `Section 14.203. In addition to your comment concerning undersized parking stalls and driving lanes, 1 do not approve of, the ingress pattern for emergency apparatus. The proba- bility of vehicle congestion and excessive:manuevering is unacceptable. The deletion of approximately 6 or 7 parking stalls or the raising of the `entrance canopy to 12 feet is required. We have been requested by your office to check this set of plane against the 1973 edition of the Uniform Builaing Code. However, after the review was under way we received a telephone request •from you to waive compliance with the 3.973 requirements as applied to the roof system. We are including our comments for future reference. 1. 60 D nails as an anchorage fastener ,for the roof diaphragm to shear wall joining is not acceptable per section 2313. 2. Wood ledgers are not allowed to be used in cross grain bending per section 2313. Wood ledgers us'ed to .provide lateral load anchorage is considered cross grain bending. These are the comments.which we have been asked to waive. The following comments apply through other areas in the structure and have been checked against the 1973 edition. 1. Where expansion bolts are applied specify depth of embediment. 2. Show wall thickness and depth oI embediment for Nelson studs, details 455 and 9$5. 3. Dead load for cedar shake - T and G roof area appears to be under-rated - this area may be overstressed by On the wall panel design; lateral load due to wind pressure is based on an equation from a obsolete code (AC1 - 3 - 63). Panel openings, spacings and etc. do not appear to be properly dimensioned. This plan check to date covers the foundation, vertical loads in the roof, and the wall panel design.
