RE: CEC Corporation move to 14000 Interurban Avenue South,
. Tukwila, Washington 98188 •
It is my understanding that no steamcleaning will occur inside the building .'
noted•above•and no steamcleaning waste will be discharged to the sanitary •
sewer at this site. Because of this it will not be necessary to' alter
the existing indoor sump provided its outlet has a turn -down elbow.• All.'
'kerosene, oil, solvents and flammable liquids must be stored at least
50 feet from the sump. In addition, sandbags should be available to :;
divert any spills from the sump. Oil should be skimmed from-the sump regularly
to insure that the oil cannot enter the turn -down elbow. . .
The existing sump is not adequate to properly pretreat steamcleaning waste ' prior to discharge to the sanitary sewer. Any' discharge of steamcleaning
waste to the sanitary sewer must pass through an oil separator approved -
by the Metro Industrial Waste Section.' Should you reconsider and wish to'.
discharge steamcleaning waste to the sanitary. sewer, a list of requirements
for oil separators is attached. The maximum outdoor area that may drain. -
to the sanitary sewer via an oil separator is 200 square feet. •
Any discharge of steamcleaning waste through' the existing sump at 14000.•. •
Interurban Avenue South will be considered a flagrant. violation of Metro
Resolution 3374 (enclosed). Such discharges will be subject to penalties
ranging from $50.to $5000 for each incident.
All steamcleaning waste generated at 14000 Interurban Avenue South will be
collected in a holding tank. This tank's contents must be removed to an
authorized disposal site. It is the responsibility of CEC Corporation .to
insure that this waste is not deposited at any Metro treatment plant. CEC-.
Corporation must retain a record of the volumes and dates waste is removed
from the holding tank, Metro will inspect CEC Equipment periodically to •
determine the nature of the waste entering. the existing sump and. to review •
the waste disposal record., .
