Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The
Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following
concerns:
1. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements of
Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114.
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
(UFC 12.104b)
2. Maintain sprinkler protection for all enclosed areas.
(NFPA 13, 4- 1.1.1)
All modifications to sprinkler systems shall have the
written approval of the Washington Surveying & Rating
Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk
Insurers, then by the Tukwila Fire Department. No
sprinkler work shall commence without approved
drawings. (City Ordinance #1141 & NFPA 13, 1 -9.1)
3. All electrical wiring is to be inspected by the State
Electrical Inspector, Washington State Department of Labor &
Industries.
4. Your street address must be conspicuously posted on the
building and shall be plainly visible and legible from the
street. Numbers shall contrast with their background. (UFC
10.208)

1. GENERAL

SPECIFICATIONS
Work Included: Furnish all necessary materials, labor and
equipment for the complete installation of aluminum
framing as shown on the drawings and specified herein.
(Specifier Note: it is suggested that related items such as
glass, sealants and entrances be included whenever
possible).
Work Not Included: Structural support • of the framing
system, interior closures, metal sub- sills, (Specifier list
other exclusions).
Related Work Specified Elsewhere: (Specifier list).
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Drawings and specifications are based upon the System 45
Framing System as manufactured by General American.
Whenever substitute products are to be considered,
supporting technical literature, samples, drawings, and
performance data must be submitted fifteen (15) days prior
to bid in order to make a valid comparison of the products
involved. Test reports certified by an Independent test
laboratory must be made available upon request.
PERFORMANCE
When tested in accordance with ASTM E 283, air infiltration
shall not exceed .06 CFM per square foot (.0003 m3 /s -m2)
of fixed area.
When tested in accordance with ASTM E 331, no water
penetation at a test pressure of 6.24 P.S.F. (300 Pa.).
Structural performance shall be based on:
Maximum deflection of 1/175 of the span
and
Allowable stress with a safety factor of 1.65.
The system shall perform to these criteria under a windload
of:

II. PRODUCTS
MATERIALS
Extrusions shall be 8083 -T5 alloy and temper (AVM 8221
alloy G.S. 10A -T5). Fastener, where exposed, shall be
aluminum, stainless steel or zinc plated steel in accordance
with ASTM A 184 -71, Perimeter anchors shall be aluminum
or steel, providing the steel is properly insulated from the
aluminum.

FINISH
All .exposed framing surfaces shall be free of scratches and
other serious blemishes.
Aluminum moldings shall be given a caustic etch followed
by an anodic oxide treatment to obtain...(Specify one)

color conforming to Aluminum Association Standard
AAM10 C22 A34. Color shall be
(Specify 602 Bronze or 802 Black).

conforming to Aluminum Association Standard

FABRICATION
The framing system shall provide for flush glazing on all
sides with no projecting stops. Vertical and horizontal
framing members shall have a nominal face dimension of
13/4" (44.4mm) for System 45. Overall depth shall be 41/2"
(114,3mm) with a 1/2" (12.6mm) glass pocket width. The
glass pocket depth shall be a minimum of 'A" (22,2mm). The
glass bite will be a minimum of iii" (09.2mm) with 1h" edge
clearance, Entrance framing members shall be compatible
with glass framing in appearance. All single acting entrance
frames shall include positive barrier weathering.
III. EXECUTION
INSTALLATION
All glass framing shall be set in correct locations as shown
in the details and shall be level, square, plumb and in
alignment with other work in accordance with the
manufacturer's Installation instructions and approved shop
drawings. Ail joints between framing and the building
structure shall be sealed in order to secure a watertight
installation.
CLEANING AND PROTECTION
After installation all metal surfaces shall be cleaned to
remove mortar, plaster, paint or other contaminents. After
cleaning, all work shall be protected against damage until it
is accepted by the General Contractor. Thereafter, it shall
be the responsibility of the General Contractor to maintain
protection and provide final cleaning.
