Presently in their existing facility, in the screen washout area, certain amounts of bicromates do enter the system through their washout process; however, in complying with requests from O.S.H.A. inspectors, this process will be self - contained. The existance of a drain in the screen washout area in the new facility is only because of the existance of water and possible splashing and is to take care of that contingency. No washout process will be emptied down the drain. The other process which involves mineral spirits is also a self - contained system and does not go down the drain. DEPT, This is to confirm your meeting with Marrianne Stewart and Bob Bryan concerning Sun Sportswear and their limited use of some hazardous materials, and that the quantities used do not require an H -2 occupancy. At their present facility, they use small quantities of xylene, odorless mineral spirits, and acetone. However, these are only a fraction of the quantities allowed in Table 9 -A of the 1982 UBC, and are therefore exempted. Tom, In conformation of your conversation with Al Clow, in our office, Iam writing regarding the requirements which Berkley must meet in order to obtain a temporary occupancy permit for the high bay area of Sun Sportswear. Berkley agrees to meet the following stipulations: 1. Supply and install a 1 hour separation wall at the corridor with no penetrations separating the production area from the office area. 2. Supply and install 2 man door exits out of the production area with exit signs. 3. Supply and install 2 additional yard fire hydrants as required by the City of Tukwilla Fire Department. 4. We will submit to the City of Tukwilla a performance bond for the cost of the sprinkler system for the north unsprinkled portion of the building. This work will be completed prior to this space being occupied by tenants. These conditions will be completed and ready for inspection on Wednesday, February. 26,1986. Crawley Fire Chief February 26, 1986 Re: Sun Sportswear - 401 Tukwila Parkway Dear Sir: The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. This review limited to speculative tenant space only - special fire permits may be necessary depending on detailed description of intended use. 2. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B :C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1 and UFC 10.301b) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.3) 3. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114. Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. (UFC 12.104b) 4. Panic hardware is required on all assembly area exit doors (UFC 25. 6) (Employees Lunchroom - A -3) City of Tukwila Fire Department, 444 Andover Park East, Tukwila, Washington 98188 (206) 575 -4404 City of Tukwila Fire Department Page number 2 Gary VanDusen Mayor Hubert H. Crawley Fire Chief 5. Exits shall be illuminated at any time the building is occupied. An emergency system shall automatically provide exit illumination upon failure of the main power supply. (UFC 12.113a) (Throughout warehouse, offices, corridors mezzanine and lunchroom) 6. An automatic fire extinguishing (sprinkler) system is required and shall be designed, installed and tested. (City Ordinance #1141) (All unsprinklered areas) 7. Local UL Central Station Supervision is required per UFC 10.310. 8.. Hose stations are required. (Plans must be submitted to the Fire Marshal for approval prior to installation.) (City Ordinance #1141) 9. Fire hydrants are required as detailed in City Ordinance #729. 10. This office is to be contacted to witness flushing of underground piping and 200 psi pressure tests on all sprinkler system piping. (NFPA 13, 1- ].0.2) Protective guard posts or curbs are required around all gas meters, electrical transformers, sprinkler valves and hydrants. Posts and curbs are to be painted yellow. (City Ordinance #729) 11. Maintain sprinkler protection for all enclosed areas. (NFPA 13, 4- 1.1.1) All modifications to sprinkler systems shall have the written approval of the Washington Surveying & Rating Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk Insurers, then by the Tukwila Fire Department.
