April 5, 1986
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for .
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B :C) dry chemical type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1 and UFC 10.301b)
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5
ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9)
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit.
(NFPA 10, 1 -6.3)
2. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements
of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114.
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
(UFC 12.104b)
3. EXIT signs shall be installed at required exit
doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate
the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a contrasting
color with the surrounding area and shall have letters not
less than six inches high with a minimum letter width of
3/4 ". (UFC 12.114a & 12.114b)

4. Protective guard posts or curbs are required around
all gas meters, electrical transformers, sprinkler valves
and hydrants. Posts and curbs are to be painted yellow.
(City Ordinance #729)
5. An approved fire alarm system is required per City
Ordinance #1327. An approved automatic sprinkler system
may be installed in lieu of a fire alarm system. (Plans
must be submitted to the Fire Prevention Bureau for
approval prior to installation.)
Local UL Central Station supervision is required.
(City Ordinance #1327)
6. Key box - When access to or within a structure or an
area is unduly difficult because of secured openings or
where immediate access is necessary for life- saving or
fire - fighting purposes, the Chief may require a key box to
be installed in an accessible location. The key box shall
be a type approved by the Chief and shall contain keys to
gain necessary access as required by the Chief. (UFC
10. 209)
7. Each circuit breaker shall be legibly marked to
indicate it's purpose. (NEC 110 -22)
All electrical wiring is to be inspected by the State
Electrical Inspector, Washington State Department of
Labor & Industries.
8. All interior wall covering materials shall be
fire - resistive or shall be treated to be fire - resistive, so
us to result in a flame- spread rating as required by UFC
Appendix VI -C tables 42A and 42B. A certificate of the
flame spread rating is required to be delivered to the
Tukwila Fire Department. (UBC 4204)
9. Your street address must be conspicuously posted on
the building and shall be plainly visible and legible from
the street. Numbers shall contrast with their background.
(UFC 10.208)
10. Fire lane designation required per City Ordinance
#1110 and Uniform Fire Code Section 10.207.

Division 7 Moisture Protection
1100 Roof Patching
Work included:
Provide all labor and rrraterials including necessary cant strips for the patching of
roof surfaces cut by work under this contract (1.e., for HVAC penitrations, ipes,
ducts, etc.,). All roof patches and repairs by the roofing subcontractors shall be
guaranteed for a year.
Division 8 Doors. Windows, and Frames
8100 Entrance Doors and Storefronts
Work Included:
Furnish all 'labor, material and equipment necessary to furnish and install all
aluminum entrance doors, frames for adjacent fixed sash, storefront system, and
interior windows.
Materials:
Aluminum entry doors to be frameless 1/2" tempered glass with top and
bottom rail, 'finish dark bronze, concealed overhead closure and lock in bottom
rail.
Aluminum entry doors to be narrow stile, finish dark bronze, per elevation.
Hardware to be manufacturers standards of the type required. Cylinder cores to be
Schiage. Locks to meet requirements of local building codes. Storefront systems to
reeet the requirements of local and state handicap requirements including, but not
limited to kickplates and opening hardware.
Interior Mall storefront Framing materials to be bronze anodized, extruded jamb not
required to `receive 1/2" tempered glass with polished edges and 1/2" gap between
panes, •l 3/4 x 4" framing at head and sill only
Exterior (exposed to weather) Storefront Framing System to be United States
Aluminum Corporation Series RG175, radius framing system, to receive 114" glass.
System must be complete with any necessary break metal to give a complete and
final job.
Interior lab window frame to be 1 3/4" x 4" framing at head, jamb and sills, to
receive 1/4" glass, as noted on drawings.
Additional breakmetal bsse: If noted on drawings, add breakmetal base at mall side
of storefront, continuous length of storefront, color to match framing.
Additional breakmetal at rolling grille columns: add breakmetal to mall side of all
columns at rolling grille, color to match framing.
Installation:
Corners of all 'framing shall be accurately joined and fit to flush hairline joints, all
ends of extrusions shall be capped with similar material. Glass stops shall be
pressure type vinyl or neoprene eliminating any exposed screws and shall have
weather re.'istant sealing gaskets.
All 'framing nr_0ers shall be caulked with Dow Corning *781 ce equal, color to
match the frame match!.
Final adjustment of all closures shall meet handicap requirements for force to open.
All work shall be plumb, level and true, and installed In a first class manner left free
from scratches and other serious blemishes.

8200 Glass Mirrors and Glazing
Work Included:
Furnish all labor, materials, equipment and the means of construction to furnish and
install all Glass Mirrors and Glazing Work, including all incidental and related work,
complete, in accordance with all contract documents.
Materials:
Glass shall be as manufactured by ASG Industries Inc., Libbey —Ownes -Ford Co., PPG
Industries Division or approved equal.
Storefront glazing shall be 1/4" clear tempered or 1/2" clear tempered safety glass
with exposed edges polished smooth, as noted on the drawings location.
Storefront mirror at fascia and columns to be gray.
Laboratory glass to be 1/4" clear tempered safety or 1/4" wire glass with exposed
edges ground smooth. Location noted on drawing.
Bathroom mirrors shall be No 1 quality 1/4" Elctro copper backed clear float
mirror quality glass guaranteed for 5 years from date of installation from silver
spoilage. Location as noted on drawings.
Provide 3/8" tempered glass shelves with all edges ground smooth at locations
shown on drawings,
Sealant shall be Dow Corning #101 or a high grade silicone clear caulk.
Installation:
'General:' Except as otherwise indicated, comply with glass manufacturer's
instructions, glazins; materials manufacturer's instructions, and "Glazing Manual" by
FGMA and other technical publications of recognized authorities in the industry.
Install each piece to achieve watertight and air tight performance, and to minimize
breakage,
Inspect glass edges at time of setting, and discard pieces with significant damage.
Force sealants into channels, to eliminate a rich and to be effectively "wet" bond
surfaces. Tool exposed surfaces to provide slight wash away Joint, trim and clean
promptly.
Set mirror glass in mastic spots or strips as recommended by mirror manufacturer,
but with not less than 755 of back surface ventilated and free cf mastic. Support
mirrors at lower edges as indicated.
Acceptance: Immediately prior to time Of substantial completion, replace glass
which is broken or otherwise damaged, and wash and polish inside and out
Note:
This subcontractor shall drill all necessary holes' for sign mounting and electrical
penitrations (appioximately four holes per letter) for both the "Eye +Tech" and "The
Eye Center signs. Refer to drawing for details.

0300 Hollow metal doors and fraimes
Work Included:
Provide ail hollow metal door and frame work as indicated on drawings and specified
herein.
Ali hollow metal doors and frames shall be of dimensions and thickness as indicated
on the drawings and shall be the products of: Ceco Steel, Overly Mfg. Co.,
Stcelcraft Mfg., Dreiger Steel Co., or approved equal. Hollow metal doors shall be
1 3/4" 18 gauge, hollow metal frames shall be 18 gauge.
Provide frames to receive 3 silencers on strike jamb, provide silencers.
Prepare and renforce all doors and frames for all hardware required.
Provide underwriters labels of proper class on doors and frames where called for on
drawings.
Four copies of shop drawings of doors and frames are to be submitted to general
contractor and approved prior to fabrication.
installation:
Install hollow metal units in accordance with manufacturer' ` nstructions and final
shop drawings. 11t door to frames and floors wilt, clearances specified in SDI -100.
Install "fire —rated units in accordance with NFPA STD. No. 80.
8400 Builders Hardware
Work Included:
Contractor to furnish door hardware to be installed under, this section of
specification. Hardware shall be installed so doors open, close, and latch properly.
8700 Rolling Grilles
Work Included:
Furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and the means of
install free standing rolling grilles including all incidental
complete, in accordance with all contract documents.
Drawings shall be submitted promptly after the award of
delivery to meet the completion date of the work.
Work Excluded:
115V power to motor and drywall wrapped columns.

Materials:
Rolling Grilles shall be by the Cookson Company or approved equal.
Rolling Grilles shall be electrically operated,` motor left side, self- supported size as
shown on the drawings. Grille shall be in line link 9" o.c. pattern with 5/16"
diameter continuous rods 1 1/2" on centers and vertical links 9" on centers. Grille
shall be aluminum mill finish with bottom bar and guides in dark bronze duranodic
finish.
Guides shall be attached to minimum 4" x 4" steel tubular suport to provide a
complete assembly.
Two wall mounted key switches interlocked to the gate lock on the bottom rail.
'(eyswitches shall operate gate to stop at any height from full open to full closed
positions.
Each grille shall have an Emergency Opening Device interconnected 'to the
-rotor mounted at 3' 4" maximum to the pull handle.
Assembly shall be complete with counter balance and lateral bracing to structure
above.
Installation:
Installation shall be in strict accordance with the Manufacturers printed
instructions.
All parts of the work shalt be erected plumb, level and true. Ail abutting members
shall be in perfect alignment. Support instaiiat ce shil be carefully coordinated
with the Contractor prior to starting work.
Grille shall be guaranteed for a period of one year against all defects in material and
workmanship.
Protection and Cleanings
Ali work shall be adequately protected during site storage and erection to prevent
damage to finished work from stains, discoloration, scratches or any other cause.

Acoustical installation shall not start until foundation work to receive acoustical
materials' has been completed and inspected.
Grid shall be installed and tied per any required local or stet, codes or inspectors for

Scaffolds:
Provide necessary scaffolding, suing, and similar items as required for proper
execution of work, Comply with Local and State laws governing same. Erect to
interfere as little as possible with work of others. Remove promptly as soon as
drywall work is completed.
Heat:
Duering application of gypsum drywall and joint treatment, building temperature shall
be maintained in the range of 55 degrees to 70 degrees Farenheit. Ventilation shall
be provided to eliminate excessive moisture.
Workmanship:
Attach metal runners at bottom and top of partitions. Anchor runners to slab with
powder actuated studs or self drilling anchors 24"" o. c. max.
install metal studs secured to metal runners with 3/8" sheet metal screws.
Apply gypsum board full height with long dimension parallel to studs. Stagger joints
on opposite sides of partition.
Fasten with 1" drywall screws 12" o.c. in field on board and 6" o.c. along edges.
Stagger screws along abutting edges.
Work shall be performed by mechanics skilled in this type of work. Cracks, pits,
waves, scratches, gouges, crooked edges or angles not acceptable. Ail construction:
in accord with manufacturers published specifications and detail.
All 45 degree outside corners to be turned by breaking a single sheet around corner.
All exterior corners shall be reinforced with corner bead. Use metal casing bead at
edges of all face boards at their intersection with masonry, acoustical ceiling grid,
or other non — gypsum board materials. Also, use metal casings at exposed edges
around cutouts, and openings of any kind, except electrical "J" boxes.
SPECIAL: EYE+TECH REQUIREMENTS
This subcontractor to install hollow metal frames.
The wall between the Doctor and Sales/Lab areas is to extend 12'0" A.F.F. / to
roof deck. Any necessary penetrations snail be sealed.
All other wails are to penetrate ceiling` height only as required for ceiling
installation. Normal ceiling heights` called on the plans may be used as wall heights
with the ceili ± 1" lower, except in those cases where the ceiling height must
match an existing controlling condition.

The two small pass through windows' into the Lab should be about 8" x 5 ", drywall
