CALL TO ORDER COUNCILMEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Discussion Police Department 1977 Budget Proposal CITY OF TUKWILA COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING Minutes Tukwila Fire Station Training Room Council President George Hill, presiding, called the Committee of the Whole Meeting to order at 7:34 P.M. GARDNER, MS. HARRIS, HILL, SAUL, TRAYNOR, VAN DUSEN Council President Hill announced that this is the start of preliminary review of the proposed 1977 Budget. He turned the meeting over to Police Chief John Sheets to give his presentation. Chief Sheets asked the Council to please consider his recommendations to provide the resources that the Police Department, the Citizens and the City Council want. Mayor Bauch stated that he had discussed formulating of budgets with Staff and Staff agreed they would rather formulate their budgets without mandates from the Mayor. Police /Administration: Discussion was held on the request for a second Deputy Administrator and a part -time Clerk /Steno. It was stated that the Clerk /Steno will be hired only if necessary. Some changes will be made when part of the Clerk /Dispatchers are moved to the new Central Communication Center. Police /Investigation. Chief Sheets explained the Federal Grant to hire a non commissioned person as an evidence technician and to work with crime prevention. Weapon Motorcycle Mobile Radio Radar Unit Cost 1,033 495 1,595 4,132 395 1,479 980 1,400 1,800 /676 *It was agreed to talk with the mechanics before making a decision on these two items. *It was agreed that this item should be discussed further with the possibility of being placed in the budget for the following year. COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING November 16, 1976 Page 2 Contract for Fire Service It was agreed to meet with Chief Sheets again to finish the review of the Police Department Budgets. Mayor Bauch explained that the City of Kent had approached Tukwila on the possibility of the Tukwila Fire Department furnishing fire service to a portion of the north end of their City. Questions were raised on what area, how it would be negotiated, what additional personnel and equipment would be required to furnish this service, development of the area, etc. It was agreed by the City Council that they would be willing to discuss the possibility further.
