The request to classify as a III -N is for the tenant (The Boeing Company) and evidently for insurance. I have compared Building 6 to all the other buildings (4,5 etc.) to review any differences. The roof construction, wall construction, glazing, openings, etc. are all the same. The following is this comparison: 1) Type V -N: o Walls are not rated for bearing and non- bearing. o Structural frame, interior bearing, permanent partitions, roofs and ceiling /roofs are not rated, 2) Type III -N: o Exterior walls are to be 4 hour for bearing and non - bearing walls with exception #3 (Chapter 20, pg. 101) - exception states that exterior noncombustible walls may be two hour where openings are permitted. o Per Section 2003 (b) - openings are permitted unprotected if 20' or greater from adjacent property line. The field measured distance from glass to glass on Buildings 4 & 6 is 40' (20' to assumed p,l, between buildings). This unprotected openings are permitted and the walls (bearing) can be two hour. Further, I talked with Mr. Lynn Takeuchi at McKenzie /Saito, original architects for the project, and he doesn't find any reason for this building to be classified any differently than the others. We are requesting that Building 6 be reclassified from a V -N sprinklered building to a III -N sprinklered building. Please let me know if there is anything else necessary for this change.
