We have reviewed the items noted in the Mahan and DeSalvo letter
(Ms. Bridget Smith) of December 24, 1986, subject as above. The
following information is provided to assist you in the prompt
review and approval of the appropriate permit. We welcome your
on -site review.
Violation of Section 3306(c), Rise and Run, and Section 3306(j)
Handrails:
1. The submitted plans show the rise and run for the
stairways to the new improvement to be in violation
of the above codes. However, the actual dimensions
for the rise and run are within the code. The actual
rise is 7 inches maximum, and the actual run is 11
inches, minimum.
2. The handrail spacing between the middle rail and the
bottom rail is over 12 inches. We will provide
an additional rail between the middle and bottom
rail to reduce the between -rail spacing to much
less than 12 inches. The spacing between the
top and middle rail is within code (< 12 inches).
3. Height of guardrail from the landing, 42 3/4 ".
Height of handrail from the nosing of the tread, 32"
to bottom of handrail, 34" to top of handrail.
4. Existing stairway to old second story area. This
stairway was built under an approved permit
approximately five years ago.

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical. type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1 and UFC 10.301b)
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5
ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9)
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit.
(NFPA 10, 1 -6.3)
2. Exit hardware and barking must meet the requirements
of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114.
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
(UFC 12.104b)
3. Maintain sprinkler protection for all enclosed areas.
(NFPA 13, 4- 1.1.1)
All modifications to sprinkler systems shall have the
written approval of the Washington Surveying & Rating
,Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk
Insurers, then by the Tukwila Fire Department. No

And all other applicable local, state and federal codes,
rules and regulations. '
3, Contractor shall verify all conditions and dimensions shown
and shell report discrepancies to the engineers
4. Proposed project consists of constructing a catwalk,

Owners . . . Fatigue Technology
6* Fainting of catwalk shall be per owner's requirements.
7* All. handrails sod other safety conditions in the building
during and after construction shall, comply with OSHA
requirement**
8. Steel paates and beams shall be A-36, Fy 36 Md.
Steel tubes shall be Fy m 46 ksi„,
9* AU fillet welds to be 3/16" unless noted otherwise.
10.' All welders. shall be certified by WABO.
11* Bolts shall conform to ASTM A.307,
12. Parabolt concrete anchors with 4*" embedment typical,
sized as notedi Wm diameter minimum.
13. Special inspeCtion of the welding and structural steel
erection will be required, Inspection to be performed
by Wetherholt J AssOciates.
