NO. N -200 APPROVED BASE PLY SUBSTRATE ARC PREMIUM AMERICAN ROOFING CORPORATION 3100 S. California Chicago, Illinois 60608 (312) 376 -1110 • • DESCRIPTION Provide all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and incidentals as needed to install a complete American Roof- ing Corporation reinforced modified bituminous mem- brane roof system over a nailable substrate. QUALITY ASSURANCE Products used in the work of this Section shall be manu- factured by The American Roofing Corporation (ARC) or approved for use in conjunction with the products manu- factured by ARC. The Roofing Contractor and his personnel shall be cur- rently approved by ARC as qualified to install the materials of this section. Do not apply roofing during inclement weather. Do not apply roofing membrane to damp, frozen, dirty, or dusty surfaces. MATERIALS ARC approved organic or fiberglass base sheet; or ARC modified bituminous "BASE SHEET" reinforced with a minimum 50 gram per square meter fiberglass matt and weighing approximately 95 pounds per roll. There are approximately 200 square feet of finished roof coverage in each roll. Tradename: ARC "BASE SHEET ". ARC modified bituminous roofing membrane reinforced with a 170 gram per square meter polyester matt core and weighing approximately 90 pounds per roll. There are approximately 100 square feet of finished roof membrane per roll. Tradename: ARC "PREMIUM ". (OPTIONAL SURFACE COATINGS) ARC white roof coating is used as a fire retardant surfacing material which meets UL Class A fire rating criteria. ARC dark brown emulsion coating is an asphalt latex emul- sion roof surfacing material used as a fire retardant surfac- ing material which meets UL Class A fire rating criteria. ARC aluminum roof coating is a non - fibrated asphalt base, reflective aluminum surfacing material. PRODUCT HANDLING All materials, except those that are shop fabricated, shall be delivered to the job site with their original labels intact. Bulk materials shall be identified by the manufacturer as to specification issued. All materials shall be stored in accordance with the instruc- tions of the manufacturer prior to their application or instal- lation. No wet or damaged materials will be used in the application. Materials stored on the job site shall be a minimum 4" off the ground or the roof. Application of all roofing shall be accomplished in such a way that each area will be complete at the end of each day's work. All roof edges and incomplete flashing shall be protected against water entry, particularly between work periods. All masonry, concrete and sheet metal surfaces incorpo- rated into the roof system shall be primed with asphalt primer meeting ASTM D 41 specification and allowed to dry prior to installing bituminous roofing materials. Wood curbs or nailers, where required, shall be pressure treated with osmose K -33 or approved pressure treatment meeting AWAP Standard P -5. Brush coat ends with special osmose preservative or approved equal. s2400 PREPARATION Clean the substrate surface removing all dirt, debris and foreign material. The substrate surface shall be clean, firm, dry, and smooth for the application of the ARC modified bituminous roof system. APPLICATION Install ARC modified bituminous BASE SHEET or ARC approved base sheet set with minimum 3" side laps and 6" end laps, without wrinkles or fishmouths. Base sheet shall be nailed 9" on center at the laps and 18" on center stag - gered in rows approximately 12" apart down the middle of the sheet using approved fasteners. (Coverage is approxi- mately 100 fasteners per square). Install ARC "PREMIUM" modified bituminous roofing membrane sheet with minimum 3" side laps and 6" end laps. On low sloped roofs the sheets shall be run perpen- dicular to the slope of the roof or substrate starting at the low point. All overlaps in the sheets shall be installed so as to avoid water edges, wherever practical. At all intersections between two different slopes, such as parapet walls, roof curbs and narrow valleys, install one additional ply of modified bituminous sheet extending six inches on the surface of each slope. At all narrow valleys (less than three feet wide) install two ply of ARC modified bituminous roof membrane over base sheet. The rolled membrane sheet shall be set and unrolled approximately six feet to align sheets. The propane torch shall then be applied to the exposed outer surface of the roll until the surface reaches the proper application tem- perature (generally 350 to 450 degrees fahrenheit). The roll is then gradually unrolled to create a heat weld between the membrane sheet and substrate. The remain- der of the roll is re- rolled and installed in the same manner. There should be approximately an eighth inch to a half inch bleed out of the adhesive at the overlaps. All overlaps shall be checked and sealed using a heated trowel. At all locations where the lap is not sealed, the trowel shall be used to open the lap and apply heat into the lap to melt the adhesive on the back of the roll and seal the lap. The edge of the sheet at the bleed out shall then be struck with the hot trowel to create a smooth finished welded seam. Flashing sheets shall be installed in strips generally cut from across the roll (maximum length should not exceed 6'). All flashing sheets shall extend a minimum of four inches on the horizontal surface and eight inches above the finished roof surface. Flashing sheets shall be installed by the same heat weld method used for the roof membrane. Items related to reroofing operations such as sheet metal gravel stops, roof vents, and similar items shall be incor- porated into the new roof system in accordance with the recommendations described in the current issue of the ARC "SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS" manual. APPLICATION OF OPTIONAL SURFACING ARC "PREMIUM" roof membrane does not require a sur- face coating and may be installed as manufactured without additional surfacing. ARC roof coating shall be applied as the surfacing material over the membrane sheet. Application of coating shall be in accordance with the recommendations and specifications printed on the container. • JOB INFORMATION DATA: Specification Number: Project Name: Project Location: City, State, Zip' Total Roof Area: sq. ft. Lineal ft. of flashing: METHOD OF ATTACHMENT: Base Sheet' Surface Coating' Type (if any)' MANUFACTURERS OF MODIFIED ROOFING MEMBRANES •1•1,1,1 The Superior Membianes A highly tested waterproof method in the building industry specially recommended for: Roofs, foundations, terraces, garages, swimming - pools, dams, reservoirs, bridges, viaducts, tunnels, canals, basins, subways. ARC - PREMIUM rooting membrane is a prefabricated membrane composed of a mixture of Bitumen and selected Polypropolyene resins with a reinforcement core of polyester. This mixture provides excellent performance characteristics. Constant flexibility and plasticity at low ambient temperatures is resistance to thermic aging and U.V. degragation. This membrane application is compatible with other B.0 R. systems. The polyester reinforcement core is a filament nonwoven fibre of 170 GR;Sq.m. that withstands high and low temperatures, has excellent resistance to moisture, puncture, tearing with excellent elongation and flexibility properties in addition to the ability 01 easily forming to various con- figurations, ARC - PREMIUM is especially recommended for all roofing applications. Waterproofing of foundations, terraces, gar- ages, reservoirs, planters. ARC- PREMIUM is manufac- tured with a plain black Bituminous weathering surface. The bottom sur- face of the membrane is provided with a very thin polyethylene film fully bonded to the roll permitting direct torch on applica- tion to the substrate. Ai r,4 VOI Anes )ecially recommended for: servoirs, bridges, ARC - ALUMINUM roofing membrane is composed of a polypropolyene modified pre- fabricated membrane. with rein- forcement core of Fiberglass mat and a bonded embossed aluminum foil. Its embossing gives aesthetic beauty in every aspect while providing for structural shrinkage and expansion. Besides aesthetic relevance the aluminum foil shelters the Bituminous compound from weathering and normal U.V. aging. U.V. rays and atmospheric gases together with climatic variations cause some losses of resistance in the exposed membranes. This loss of plasticizing oils in the bitumen is retarded when protected by the foil. ARC - ALUMINUM is manufactured with an aluminum foil weathering surface adhered to the membrane during the production cycle. The bottom surface of the membrane is provided with a very thin Polyethylene film fully bonded to the roll permanently, direct torch on application to the substrate. 41P ARC - GRANULAR is a surfaced roofing mem- brane composed of a mixture of Bitumen and selected Polypropolyene resins with a Polyester rein- forcement core and a mineral protection surfacing. The mineral surface is given by granules fully bonded during the manufacturing process to the upper surface at 180" a 3" lap at the membrane edge is left free of granules allowing an easy welding of the overlaps during application. Thee mineral protection provides superior resistance to aging of Bituminous modified compounds caused by U.V. rays and reflects solar rays lowering thermal aging. In addition, the surface provides a tough wear resistant surface. ARC - GRANULAR is especially suitable for use on roofing applications where aesthetics are of concern such as residential and terrace construction. z 3 O U C7 z co D p o 4• 2 8 pa vi Fn Wocsicy iU'?
