VanDusen, Mayor 5/2/88 Re: Friedlanders Jewelers - 668 Southcenter Mall Dear Sir: The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10.301b) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinents, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6) (UFC 10.301) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.3) (UFC 10.301) 2. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114. Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. Maintain sprinkler protection for all enclosed areas. (NFPA 13, 4- 1.1.1) (UFC 10.302) All sprinkler drawings shall be prepared by companies licensed to perform this type of work. Drawings shall first be approved by the Washington Surveying & Rating Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk Insurers, then by the Tukwila Fire Department. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. All wall and ceiling materials constructed of wood, shall be fire retardant treated. This letter confirms the agreement established at our meeting at City Hall on Thursday, April 28th, concerning the extension into the mall of the service hallway currently located behind the Friedlander's (Unit #668) store. Southcenter agrees, at it's own expense, to construct a service hallway extension as shown on the attached site plan. The majority of the space would come out of the area currently occupied by our Uwajimaya store (Unit #672) with construction of the hallway to begin when the Uwajimaya lease ends on July 31, 1989. We would require 90 days from this date to complete the project. As discussed, the hallway extension would be constructed to meet U.B.C. standards including the accomplishment of a full one -hour fire rating. It is our understanding that this agreement allows the Friedlander remodel /split construction project to move ahead immediately so long as the other usual requirements in the building permit process are satisfactorily completed. Thank you again for your willingness to work with us toward a mutually beneficial resolution to this situation. A comprehensive proposal through Mr. Patterson and our Tenant Construction Department in Cleveland, Ohio, that deals with all of South - center's service hallway opportunities, will be forthcoming in the very near future.
