5.1 QUALITY ASSURANCE

INSTALLATION OF AUGER- PLACED PILES FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS.
B. INSPECTION: ALL PILING INSTALLATION WORK WILL BE SUPERVISED AND
INSPECTED BY THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE. THE FACT THAT OWNER
HAS A REPRESENTATIVE ON THE JOB IN NO WAY RELIEVES CONTRACTOR
OF THE COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY OF FULL COMPLIANCE WITH THE
DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSIST THE

B ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE ACCURATELY MEASURED BY VOLUME OR BY
WEIGHT AS THEY ARE FED TO THE MIXER. THE ORDER OF PLACING THE
MATERIALS IN THE MIXER SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS: (1) WATER, (2)
FLUIDIFIER, AND (3) OTHER SOLIDS IN ORDER OF INCREASING
PARTICLE SIZE. THE MINIMUM INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE HOLLOW SIIAF'1•
OF THE AUGER FLIGHT SHALL BE 1-1/4 INCHES. GROUT INJECTION
EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH A GROUT PRESSURE GAGE IN CLEAR
VIEW OF THE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR. RATE OF GROUT INJECTION AND
RATE OF AUGER WITHDRAWAL FROM THE SOIL. SHALL BE SO COORDINATED
AS TO MAINTAIN AT ALL TIMES A POSITIVE PRESSURE ON THIS GAGE
WHICH WILL, IN TURN, INDICATE THE EXISTENCE OF A "REMOVING
PRESSURE" ON THE BOTTOM OF THE AUGERFLIGHT. MAGNITUDE OF THIS
PRESSURE AND PERFORMANCE OF OTHER AUGERING AND GROUTING
PROCEDURES, SUCH AS RATE OF AUGERING, RATE OF GROUT INJECTION,
AND CONTROL OF GROUT RETURN AROUND THE AUGERF'LIGNT (WHICH ARE
DEPENDENT ON SOIL CONDITIONS AND EQUIPMENT CAPABILITY) SHALL BE
AT THE OPTION OF THE CONTRACTOR, SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF JOIE
OWNER. THE AUGER HOISTING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE CAPABLE OF
WITHDRAWING THE AUGER SMOOTHLY AND AT A CONSTANT RATE.
C A VOLUME MEASURING DEVICE SHALL BE PROVIDED TO ACCURATELY KEEP
TRACK OF THE AMOUNT OF GROUT PLACED IN EACH HOLE AND ACCESS TO
THE READING OF THIS MUST BE READILY AVAILABLE TO THE OWNER'S
REPRESENTATIVE DURING THE PLACING OPERATION. THE MINIMUM
VOLUME OF GROUT PLACED IN THE HOLE SHALL BE AT LEAST 115
PERCENT OF THE NOMINAL VOLUME OF THE HOLE.
D IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF PLACEMENT OF GROUT, PRE - TIED
REINFORCEMENT AS DETAILED ON THE DRAWINGS, SHALL BE INSERTED
INTO THE GROUT SO AS TO BE LOCATED AS CLOSE AS PRACTICABLE TO
THE DESIGN LOCATION.
5.7 PILE LENGTH
PILE LENGTHS FOR BIDDING SHALL BE AS SHOWN IN THE SOILS REPORT.
IF, IN THE OPINION OF THE OWNER OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE, THE PILE
LENGTH DOES NOT PENETRATE INTO THE SAME MATERIAL SHOWN IN THE SOIL
EXPLORATION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE DIRECTED TO CONTINUE DRILLING
TO A SATISFACTORY DEPTH. ADD OR DEDUCT PRICE AS BID BY THE
CONTRACTOR. PAYMENT FOR PILES SHALL BE BASEL) ON THE LENGTH OF
COMPLETED PILE. NO ADDITIONAL PAYMENT WILL BE MADE FOR CUTTING OFF
PILES, FOR ANY POR'T'ION OF A PILE REMAINING ABOVE CUT -OFF ELEVATION,

5.8 SPECIAL INSPECTION:

reviewed our structural calculations and plans concerning Section 3.2 of
the structural notes for the subject building. This section may read as
follows:

The twenty -eight day concrete compressive strengths shall be:

Augercast Piles: 3000 PSI; Max. Slump 4" (supervised)
