Dear Sir: The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10.301b) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.3) (UFC 10.301) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinents, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6) (UFC 10.301) 2. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114. 3. TYPE. A.C. powered automatic fire detectors shall have electrical wiring installed In an approved manner. , Section 4. Installation Installation of automatic fire detectors shall be in accordance with the plovisions, ol the current edition) of the Uniform Building Code for residences and with the most recently adopted edition of NFPA Standard #72 -A for commercial and in- dustrial buildings and monitored by a U.L. listed central station. a. The building or unit owner of his agent' shall be responsible for the installation. b. A permit shall be required for the installation. These permits shall be issued by Tukwila Fire Department. c. The building or unit owner or his agent shall provide or post within each guest room or dwelling unit, written operating instructions for the smoke detectors install- ed therein. Section 5. Maintenance. Maintenance of automatic lire detectors shall be the responsiblity of the building or unit owner or his agent in accordanc%with the following provisions: a. Battery powered smoke deft,ctors shall have new batteries installed thbf In in accordance with the manufapN7Fer's specifications. b. Necessary maintenance or replace- ment of automatic fire detectors shall be the responsiblity of the building or unit owner or his agent provided, however, the rentor or lessee shall notify the building owner or his agent .of the need of any suspected maintenance or malfunction of any detector(s). c. The building or unit ownor or his agent shall assume no liability In the event any unauthorized person, renter, or lessee tampers with, attempts to repair' or dam- ages any detector so as to render It Inoperative. Section 6. Penalties. Any person violating the provisions 'of the Ordinance shall, upon conviction there- of, be punished by a fine of not more than three hundred (300) dollars or by imprison- ment for not more than ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Section 7. Agreement or Conflict. All definitions use In this Ordinance and not otherwise detailed herein, shall be as defined in the most recently adopted edition of the. Unllorm Building Code. Where this Ordinance conflicts with the Uniform Building Code or other adopted standards, the requirement that provides the greater degree of protection shall apply. Section 8. Severability Clause, 11 any portion of this Ordinance is deemd to be In violation of the constitution of this Stale or of the United States of America or of any other law, rule or regulation, said finding shall not render the remaining sections of this Ordinance void. Section 9. Dale of Effect. This Ordinance shall be in force and effect five (5) days after passage and publication as provided by law. Section 10.
