Dear Mr. Gardner:
This is in response to your inquiry about installing a fence for a storage
area adjacent to the hazardous storage building located at 101 Andover
Park East. The following comments were provided from staff:
1. Planning Department requires a minimum 8' high opaque fence as
required by the Tukwila Zoning Code.
2. Fire Department requires compliance with Article 79, Uniform
Fire Code. Conditions are outlined in their September 9, 1988,
memo (attached).
3. Building Division requires a building permit for fences over
6' high.
Enclosed is a building permit application. Two (2) sets of plans are
required, which include a site plan identifying all buildings and location
of proposed fence, details on the fence structure, details on the footings,
and materials used.

Subject: Sun Sportswear Outside Chemical Storage
Date: September 9, 1988
Article 79, Division IV of the U.F.C., requires that outside
container and portable tank storage be in accordance with table
79.403 (copy attached) In addition:
1) When two or more classes are stored in a single pile, the
maximum quantity permitted in the pile shall be the smallest of
the two or more separate maximum quantities.
2) Containers or portable tanks in a pile shall be not more than
150 feet from a 20 foot wide access way that will allow fire -
control apparatus to approach the pile.
3) The storage area shall be protected against tampering or
trespassers where necessary and shall be kept free of weeds,
debris and other combustible materials not necessary to the
storage.
4) Materials which will react with water or other liquids to
produce a hazard shall not be stored in the same area with
flammable and combustible liquids.
5) The storage area shall be graded in a manner to divert
possible spills away from buildings or other exposures or shall
be surrounded by a curb at least 6 inches high. When curbs are
used, provisions shall be made for draining of accumulations of
groundwater or rainwater or spills of liquids. Drains shall
terminate at a safe location and shall be accessible to operation
under fire conditions.
6) A distance of not less than 15 feet shall be maintained
between the liquid storage and combustible material.
7) Signs shall be posted in the storage areas prohibiting open
flames and smoking.
8) The storage of empty tanks and containers previously used for
the storage of flammable or combustible liquids, unless free from
explosive vapors, shall be stored as if filled. Tanks and
containers when emptied shall have the covers or plugs
immediately replaced in openings.

Per your request in letter dated September 9, 1988 I am sending you a completed
building permit application, two (2) sets of site plan (sheet A), two (2) sets
of fence data, and two (2) sets of slatting data.
In regard to fire department memo dated September 9, 1988 the site plan should show
compliance with their request. With the exception of the signs. However Sun
Sportswear will post the necessary signage per fire department request.

to order. Slatting is furnished cut to
length in eight basic colors. Bottom hold-

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
The P.D.S. fence slats are flat tubular in shape with a wall
thickness of .030" 7..003 ". The slats come in six different
widths: .875" _` .030 ". 1.00'• .030 ", 1.062" -..030 ", 1.125"
030 ". 1.250" 7..030" and 2.375" . .035 ". The size speci-
fication chart on page 3 shows the fence mesh to slat
width specs. The depth of all six slats is .325" .-..025 ". The
length of the slats are 3•':" ~ "4" shorter than the height of
the chain link fence to allow for the installation of the
bottom retaining channel and the top channel if wanted.
The fence slats are manufactured from a combination of
quality base high density virgin polyethylene, color pig-
ments and ultra violet inhibitor, specifically designed to
retard the harmful effects of sunlight and lengthen the
useful life of the product. The P.D.S. slats have a wind
Toad factor of 75% when installed.
