The gusset plate should be welded to the column on each side along its entire length with a Yo fillet weld. The top chord of the joist girder should be welded to the gusset plate on each side along the entire length of contact area with a 3/16" fillet weld, with a minimum length of 3" on each side. Similarly, the bottom gusset plate should have a minimum length of 4 ", and should be welded continuously on each face to the new column with a Y4" fillet weld.
