Originally organized by the General Electric Company, Thermal Systems manufactured board stock, insulated pipe and molded insulation products for the oil pipelines and facilities in Alaska, Canada and the Northwest region of the United States. By 1977, as the demand for its pipeline products diminished, General Electric chose not to enter the residential, commercial and industrial foam insulation market and decided to sell the manufacturing facility. Realizing the potential of energy- saving products just prior to the U.S. energy crisis, Thermal Systems acquired the Utah board manufacturing plant from Its multinational parent. Thermal Systems' unique ability to respond to customer's needs, coupled with the latest developments in foam technology, has resulted in phenomenal company growth. In the last 10 years Thermal Systems has expanded across the country, building additional manufacturing facilities, now totaling six plants. The most recent opened in Florida in March, 1987. At Thermal Systems we are dedicated to producing the highest quality insulation products available today. Our reputation for reliable service as well as meeting your specific insulation requirements speaks for itself. For answers to questions regarding applications, or help In job specifications, contact one of our Sales Representatives. ThermalGard Product Description Thermal Systems ThermalGard is a foil faced polyiso sheathing board recommended for concealed use primarily in residential construction requiring an interior finish of a minimum gypsum board or equivalent 15 minute fire barrier. It consists of a polyiso foam core which has uniform closed -cell structures, exceptionally resistant to heat transmission, bonded chemically in the manufacturing process to foil/kraft facers. The superlative insulating properties of polyiso make it possible to achieve the highest degree of insulation efficiency for the lowest possible price. ThermalGard sheathing is lightweight, easy to handle and use. It can be cut with a knife or saw into any shape and requires no special application techniques. ThermalGard sheathing reduces heat loss through wood framing where fiberglass batts don't insulate, as well as improving the overall thermal efficiency of your wall. Uses ThermalGard is designed for easy installation in applications where high thermal efficiency and low cost is a must. Some examples of ThermalGard uses are: • In new frame wall construction • Cavity wall insulation in new masonary construction • Interior basement and crawl space insulation covered with minimum 1/2" gypsum board • Insulation between exterior stucco finish or face brick, in conjunction with frame wall construction • Under roof shingles over roof decks, in exposed beam and cathedral type ceilings and A -frame construction • Under slab insulation • Retrofit behind new exterior siding • Retrofit behind new interior finish of minimum 1/2" gypsum board (READ SECTION ON LIMITATIONS). THERMALGARD MUST NOT BE LEFT EXPOSED. Comparative R•Values of Insulating Sheathing and Other Sheathings in Available Thicknesses at 75° Mean Temperature. Installation ThermalGard is available in standard 4'x8' and 4'x9' sections, and longer lengths available upon request, with thicknesses from 1/2" to 2 ", making it ideal for use in typical stud construction. Additionally, upon request, Thermal Systems will provide these same boards scored on 16" or 24" centers for easier application in cavity walls and those applications where specifications or construction practice would require horizontal rather than vertical installation. Boards should be firmly butted against one another to minimize air infiltration. Holes or breaks in the board may be repaired by replacing the damaged area with a scrap of ThermalGard adhered to the good board surface with tape. Care should be taken in those areas of the country where wi nter degree days total 2000 or more, by installing an interior vapor barrier. This will greatly reduce the potential for moisture accumulation in the wall cavity. Consult your weather bureau or local utility for degree day information specific to your area.ThermalGard should always be covered upon completion of construction. Half inch gypsum board or equal is recommended as a typical interior finish. Since ThermalGard is a nonstructural board it requires corner bracing in normal stud construction. The boards can be secured in place with galvanized roofing nails having 3/3" heads and enough length to penetrate framing a minimum 3/4 ", or secure with 1" crown 16 gauge staples having leg length sufficient to penetrate framing a minimum of /2 ". Boards are typically fastened every eight inches horizontally and every twelve Inches vertically. In exterior applications; wood, hardboard, aluminum or vinyl siding can be installed over ThermalGard sheathing in accordance with the siding manufacturer's instructions. Wire mesh for stucco finishes is applied over ThermalGard sheathing and adhered by nailing to the studs. It should be noted that industry practice restricts the thickness of foam sheathings under conventional full thickness stucco to 1' /z" maximum due to the potential for nail deflection. Brick veneer is attached over the ThermalGard sheathing by nailing wall ties through to the studs. Limitations ThermalGard sheathing is a sturdy material and will withstand normal construction handling. Because it is nonstructural, common sense should be exercised in the handling, storage and application of ThermalGard sheathing to prevent breakage. No more insulation should be installed than can be covered in the same day. ThermalGard sheathing stored on the job site should be protected against traffic abuse and wind darnage, particularlywhen bundles are broken. Do not leave exposed. ThermalGard will burn, and if exposed to a fire of sufficient heat and intensity may burn rapidly. This insulating product, like wood and other organic materials, can release toxic smoke if ignited. ThermalGard must be installed behind a minimum 1/2" gypsum board or equivalent 15 minute fire barrier acceptable to the local building code. ( JAN - 31989. Insulation Value Chart Nom. Bellevue, WA 98005 Subject: FOSTORIA BUILDINGS "D" AND "E" Dear Messrs. Storseth and Levinson: In reviewing a proposed tenant improvement to Building "D ", I noted that the site plan was revised in December 1985 to reflect the inability to obtain street vacation on 134th Street. A site inspection by me on Wednesday November 16, 1988 revealed that the required changes to your parking lot to reflect these cir- cumstances have not been made. The parking and landscaping changes are correctly shown, however, on the site plan submitted for a tenant improvement for Wholesale Beauty Supply. Please complete the necessary improvements per the plan by January 10, 1988. Recalculation of the parking for the site, after changes to include the ramp and changes due to the unobtainable vacation, shows a ratio of 1.6 per 1,000 square feet of floor area. Based on the 25,027 square feet of office showroom in Build- ings "D" and "E ", you no longer can meet the parking requirement for any additional office /retail space. Your site plans should accurately portray these conditions in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 433 -1848. Very truly yours, Moira Carr Bradshaw Associate Planner MCB /sjn cc; Jesse Johnson ORDINANCE COMPLIANCE CHECKLIST Project:/01thAuxit ((iirr:). OCCUPANCY GROUP: 2. TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: V-4 3.
