Dear Sir: The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher (s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B: C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10.301b) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinents, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not mare than 5 ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6) (UFC 10.301) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit. VanDusen, Mayor of radioactive material in a sealed source or sources, or any amount of redioactive material for which a specific license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is required. 6. Durable, clearly visible signs of warning of radiation dangers shall be placed at all entrances to areas or rooms where radioactive materials are used or stored. In addition, each container in which radioactive materials are used, stored or transported shall bear a durable, clearly visible, appropriate warning sign. Such signs shall bear the three - bladed radiation symbol in magenta or purple on a yellow background in accordance with nationally recognized good practice. Signs are not required for storage of manufactured articles other than liquids, such as instruments or clock dials or electronic tubes or apparatus of which radiactive materials are a component part, and luminous compounds. When securely packaged in strong containers, provided the gamma radiation at any surface of the package is less than 10 milliroentgens in 24 hours. When not in use, radioactive materials shall be kept in adequately shielded fire - resistant containers of such design that the gamma radiation will not exceed 2O0 milliroentgens per hour or equivalent at any point of readily accessible surface. 7. Per our conversation with John McAlerncy of the King county Health Department, in this area in Tukwila, restroom facilities are sized by declared population rather than population count by code/occupancy densities. Based on Uniform Plumbing Code Appendix C: 3 lavatories + 2 toilets + 1 urinal serves 55 men. 2 lavatories + 2 toilets serves 35 women. Present configuration and capacities provides us with: Men: 2 toilets + 2 urinals + 3 lavatories are sufficient for 55 men. Women: 2 toilets and 2 lavatories are sufficient for 35 women. Photo lab population is declared as 35 male and 15 female. Radiation Health Lab population is declared as 13 male and 4 female which makes the total population of the building 48 male and 19 female.
