** SAFETY TIPS FROM THE TIMBERLINE GANG
Any fire gives off creosote, which is primarily made up of water vapor and carbon.
There is generally less creosote build up with a hot fast burning fire, as in a fire
place, than with a cooler slow burning fire, as in an air tight stove. However if
proper steps are taken creosote need not be a problem in any air tight unit.
1. Periodically, remove the side panels and check inside the firebox for signs of
creosote. If there is a slight build up take a brush and loosen creosote, then
vacuum. If you feel inadequate in this area, call a professional chimney sweep.
2. Once a day burn a hot fire for a least 15 minutes. This tends to burn out what
creosote may have formed during an extended slow burn.
3. Burn DRY seasoned hardwoods. The dryer the wood, the less creosote build up.
4. Have your chimney checked at least once a year by a professional chimney sweep
and if needed thoroughly cleaned.
* * ** The Manufacturer of Timberline Fireplace Inserts DOES NOT recommend installation in
any existing fireplaces other than masonry. Installation of the Fireplace Insert in
• zero clearance fireplaces such as Heat•ilator, Majestic, etc., may prove hazardous..
