The stipulation that the Electrical Work meet the Class I Division 1 requirements has been removed because the equipment shed is not a Class I location as per Section 3403.1 and Table 3403.1.1 of the International Fire Code. • To apply this, it is necessary that the drum be vapor tight and vented to the exterior of the building with an upward - discharging vent. As such, the design drawings have been clarified by depicting vapor -tight fittings where the product recovery tubing passes through the lid of the secondary- containment drum. The vent design was included previously and stands unchanged. The vapor -tight fittings on the drum have already been installed and hose - clamps will be installed to secure the flexible - portion of the vent hose. Under normal conditions, the drum lid and vent hose will be secured with clamps. NOTE: Occasionally, the 4- gallon product- recovery container will need to be emptied. A written procedure has been prepared and will be followed when emptying the recovered product from the recovery container (included as an attachment to this memo). Currently, it takes approximately two to three months to recover 4 gallons of product. We expect that this duration will increase with time. Given that these changes are approved, our contractor will complete the outstanding work items soon thereafter. In this case, outstanding work includes installation of a high -level float switch in the product - recovery container which would then cut power to the compressor when the container is full. Note that the electrical work is being performed under a separate electrical permit and the interior of the secondary- containment drum is a Class I, Division 1 location. Accordingly, the float switch and associated components will be installed to meet the Class I Division 1 electrical requirements. On another note, our office has relocated. Prop the door open and turn-off the power at the electrical panel located in the shed. 1. Remove clamp from drum lid and remove the hose clamp from vent hose; loosen and remove the vent hose from drum lid. 2. Lift off the drum lid and set aside. 3. Lift the float switch and the two product - recovery tubes from the container, drain the tubes into the container, set the float switch and tubes to the side, within the secondary- containment drum. 4. Lift and remove the product- recovery container from the drum. 5. Carry the container from the equipment shed and carefully pour the recovered product into the waste -oil tank (located elsewhere) for pickup by Emerald Services. 6. Return the empty container to the secondary- containment drum; replace the float switch and two product recovery tubes into the container. 7. Replace the drum lid, the vent hose; secure the hose clamp and drum -lid clamp; check to ensure that the drum is vapor tight. Make adjustments as necessary. 8. Install an equipment shed to house a compressor, electrical power panel, control -valve manifold, and a product - recovery tank as part of an Ecology- required site - remediation project. Remediation is expected to be completed in a period of 4 years. 2. The compressor will supply compressed air to a several skimmer pumps that will be remotely located in product - extraction wells. Conduit running between the equipment shed and the extraction wells will be used to carry the air - supply tubing. As free -phase gasoline product is recovered at the skimmers, it will be conveyed to a recovery tank located in the equipment shed. This product- recovery tubing will also be routed within the conduit. The recovered product will be stored within a 5- gallon, gasoline - compatible tank that will be located within a 55- gallon drum for spill containment. A high -level float switch will cut power to the compressor when the product level reaches 4- gallons within the product- recovery tank. The product - recovery tubing will connect to the spill - containment drum with vapor -tight fittings. The spill- containment drum will be vented to the exterior of the equipment shed. Additionally, the equipment shed will be served by a thermostatically -controlled fan that will be vented through one of the gables. 4. The equipment shed is 64 square feet in area and will be wood- framed /sheathed. The shed will be anchored to a cast -in -place concrete slab on- grade. Roofing will be 3 -tab asphalt- composite shingle. 5. The equipment shed occupancy is "U" as it will be an accessory structure used to house utility equipment. It will not be occupied. Install an equipment shed to house a compressor, electrical power panel, control -valve manifold, and a product - recovery tank as part of an Ecology - required site- remediation project. Remediation is expected to be completed in a period of 4 years. 2. The compressor will supply compressed air to a several skimmer pumps that will be remotely located in product - extraction wells. Conduit running between the equipment shed and the extraction wells will be used to carry the air - supply tubing. As free -phase gasoline product is recovered at the skimmers, it will be conveyed to a recovery tank located in the equipment shed. This product - recovery tubing will also be routed within the conduit. 3. The recovered product will be stored within a 5- gallon, gasoline - compatible tank that will be located within a 55- gallon drum for spill containment. A high -level float switch will cut power to the compressor when the product level reaches 4- gallons within the product- recovery tank. The spill - containment drum will be connected to a vent pipe that will vent to the exterior of the equipment shed. Additionally, the equipment shed will be served by a thermostatically - controlled, explosion -proof fan that will be vented through one of the gables. 4. The equipment shed is 64 square feet in area and will be wood - framed /sheathed. The shed will be anchored to a cast -in -place concrete slab on- grade. Roofing will be 3 -tab asphalt - composite shingle. 5. The equipment shed occupancy is "U" as it will be an accessory structure used to house utility equipment. It will not be occupied. The equipment shed is not considered an "H" occupancy due to only storing up to 5 gallons of a Class lib flammable liquid (gasoline). 6. An existing liquid - propane above - ground storage tank and dispenser will be relocated into a parking space to provide a 10 -foot clearance between the equipment shed and the above - ground storage tank. The tank will be protected with steel bollards. 7. The property is operated as a gasoline station, convenience store (3,255 gross square feet), and a car wash (1,049 gross square feet) having an "M" occupancy. The number of required parking spaces is 9. The property currently contains 12 parking spaces (9' wide by 22' long) plus one ADA- compliant space, totaling 13 spaces.
