IMC 304.3 CLOTHES DRYER EXHAUST 14 Duct penetrations; Ducts that exhaust clothes dryers shall not penetrate or be located with in any fire blocking, draftstopping or any wall, floor /ceiling or other assembly required by this code to be fire- resistance rated, unless such duct is constructed of galvanized steel or aluminum of the thickness specified in the mechanical provisions of this code and the fire- resistance rating Is maintained in accordance with this code. IRC G2439.2 (814.12) Exhaust Installation. Dryer exhaust ducts for clothes dryers shall terminate on the outside of the building and shall be equipped with a backdraft damper. Screens shall not be installed at the duct termination. Duct shall not be connected or installed with sheet metal screws or other fasteners that will obstruct the flow. Clothes dryer exhaust duct shall not be connected to a vent connector, vent or chimney. Clothes dryer exhaust ducts shall not extend into or through ducts or plenums. IRC G2439.3 (614.4) Make up air. Exhaust ducts for domestic clothes dryers shall be constructed of metal and shall have a smooth intedor finish. The exhaust duct shall be a minimum nominal size of 4 Inches In diameter. Clothes dryer transition ducts used to connect the appliance to the exhaust duct system shall be metal and limited to a single length not to exceed 8 feet In length and shall be listed and labeled for the application. Transition ducts shall not be concealed within construction. IRC G2439.5 (614.6) Maximum length. The maximum length of the clothes dryer exhaust duct shall not exceed 25 feet from the dryer location to the outlet termination. The maximum length of the duct shall be reduced 2 -1/2 feet for each 45 degree bend and 5 feet for each 90 degree bend. Where make and model of the clothes dryer to be installed Is known...maximum duct length shall be permitted to be in accordance with the dryer manufacture's installation instructions. IRC G2439.5.1 (614.6.1) EXCEPTION ACCESS OPENINGS 15 Crawlspace minimum access openings through floors shall be 18 inches by 24 inches and 16 inches by 24 inches through a perimeter wall. Access doors shall be weather - stripped. NOTE: Access openings shall be sized to allow installation or removal of any mechanical equipment (See h127). IRC R408.3 Attic space access opening shall not be less than 22 inches by 30 inches and provide a minimum unobstructed headroom in the attic access no less that 30 Inches. IRC Section R807 WEATHER PROOFING 16 Weather - resistant sheathing paper. Asphalt- saturated felt free from holes and breaks, weighing not less than 14 pounds per 100 square feet and complying with ASTM D 226 or other approved weather - resistant materials shall be applied over studs of sheathing of all exterior wall as required by Table R703.4. Such felt or material shall be applied horizontally, with the upper layer lapped over the lower layer not less than 2 Inches. Where vertical joints occur, felt shall be lapped not less than 6 Inches. IRC R703.2 Flashing. Approved corrosion-resistant flashing shall be provided in the exterior wall envelope in such a manner as to prevent entry of water into the wall cavity or penetration of water to the building structural framing components. The flashing shall extent do the surface of the exterior wall finish and shall be installed to prevent water from reentering the exterior wall envelope. IRC R703.8 Concrete and Masonry Foundations Dampproofing. Foundation walls that retain earth and enclose habitable or usable spaces located below grade shall be dampproofed from the top of the footing to the finished grade. Masonry wall shall have not less than 3/8 inch Portland cement parging applied to the exterior of the wall.
