JOAN HERNANDEZ, Council President; DENNIS ROBERTSON, CLARENCE MORIWAKI, ALLAN EKBERG, STEVE LAWRENCE, WALLY RANTS. MOIRA BRADSHAW, Department of Community Development; LARRY HARD, City Attorney; ROSS EARNST, Public Works Department. Councilmember Robertson suggested that the Council review the changes in the SAO Ordinance and the Hillside Design Ordinance prior to discussing the Tree Preservation Ordinance. The Council concurred and proceeded with the discussion. The Council concluded the discussion on the amended SAO Ordinance and decided a document will be made ready to submit to the Planning Commission. After the Planning Commission hold their hearings, the Council will continue the legislative process by following the usual procedure of holding a Public Hearing for citizens participation. The Council discussed the Draft Tree Preservation Ordinance which was loosely based on the Fulton County Tree Preservation Ordinance Standards because several Council members thought those provisions applicable to Tukwila. This draft had been before the Council before; however, this draft included referenced tables to give the Council some idea of the suggested tree densities on lots. The Council discussed most of the twenty -three page document covering the intent and purpose, applicability, permit procedure, tree replacement, and the tree preservation plan. The following questions were raised: would a consultant presumably write an ordinance, or, conduct an inventory of current significant trees in the City, or both? Could a guided tour be provided that would address all the definitions of trees? Would tree preservation be customized to Tukwila? Will a plan be in place prior to the Urban Environmentalist coming on board, or will this person be on board to participate in the initial stages of the development of this ordinance? MOVED BY EKBERG, SECONDED BY LAWRENCE, THAT THE SPECIAL COMM1 OF THE WHOLE MEETING ADJOURN.
