This item is not available quickly enough to fit within the schedule of this project. In its place, we have substituted a Watts model WD-20-L. The new Watts interceptor is capable of 20 GPM flow and has a capacity of 40 pounds of grease. We have verified that this model may be used with air admittance .valves and have provided the manufacturer's approval under separate cover, II you have any questions regarding this substitution, please feel free to contact me. The vent piping at the grease interceptor has been revised. In addition to the vent line connected to the inlet flow controller, a vent line has been added to the discharge side of the grease interceptor. These vent lines will be connected to a single air admittance valve. To prevent wastewater from bypassing the grease interceptor, the vent lines must connect a minimum of 6" above the flood rim of the 3- compartment sink. A letter from the grease interceptor manufacturer (Watts Drainage) has been included to indicate that this arrangement will not compromise the effectiveness of the grease interceptor. 2. A second vent has been added near FS #1. Per our discussions, this vent will exit the waste line from the top and offset horizontally to the wall of the kiosk. Once above the floor slab, this vent line will terminate with an air admittance valve. Drainage fittings will be used for this vent line to help prevent blockage. If you have any questions regarding these revisions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you, OORRB CTBO chael R. Black, A.I.A. LTR# Washington Reg. No.: 9205 9205 REGISTERED ARCHITECT MICHAEL R. APPIRWED -298 f: E8 1 1 i10,4 DTu ja MSION The original plan used air admittance valves which are normally not allowed. In an attempt to use another venting system such as island venting or a combination waste /vent system, we discovered that the clearances available between the second floor and ceiling below were to shallow to allow enough room for an island venting system. The existing structural members also will not allow a combination waste /vent system to be vented properly. This issue was discussed between Bob Benedicto (City of Tukwila) and Wayne Johnson (Westfield Development). It was decided that for the Wetzel's kiosk, Studor vents would be allowed. Although they have not been allowed in all kiosks at Southcenter Mall, they have been used where structural issues have been a problem such as the case with the Wetzel's kiosk. The drawings have been revised to show two Studor vents. One serves the inlet side of the grease interceptor and the second is to vent the horizontal 4" combination waste /vent pipe. Both valves will be installed within the kiosk walls using a Studor provided wall box. The wall box allows airflow to the valve and provides a means of access while shielding it from view. The connection locations have also been revised and are now shown accurately on the drawing. A 4" waste pipe and a 3/4" cold water line have been stubbed to the kiosk area by the base building contractor. Since the connection points are directly under or very near the kiosk, no pipe will be run to the service corridor as initially planned. If you have any questions regarding these revisions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you, ichael R. Black, A.I.A. Washington Reg. No.: 9205 REGISTERED ARCHITECT MICHAEL R. (If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets shall be original signed wet stamped, not copied.) 1. The letter submitted with the correction, references issues discussed with Bob Benedicto and Wayne Johnson to allow the use of an Air Admittance Valve (Studor Vent). However the design submitted apparently does not reflect a clear picture or understanding of that which was discussed and the plumbing plan has been since arranged differently. Two main issues still need to be addressed. a. The use of a grease interceptor (grease trap) vent shall be installed downstream of the grease interceptor. Also the grease interceptor installation shall be designed in a way that it will not become air -bound and shall be properly vented. Since the Studor vent is designed to only allow air in and does not allow the fluctuation of air, the potential is for the interceptor to be air - bound. Also since the grease interceptor is considered a separate fixture, it shall be individually trapped and vented. Therefore a design shall be necessary to show that the grease interceptor installation shall meet the intent of the code and documentation from the manufacture of the grease interseptor to show Studor vents are allowable for this type of installation with the grease trap. In addition provide a method or documentation to show Studor vents shall not be adversely affected by the reverse pressure fluctuation. (2006 UPC 1009.4, 1014.1.1 & 1014.2) b. Secondly a vent shall be required for floor sink #1 (FS -1). Show or provide for a means of venting at that vicinity of the FS -1 floor sink. (2006 UPC 901.0, 1002.1 & 1002.2) Should there be questions concerning the above requirements, contact the Building Division at 206 -431- 3670.
