HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1318 - Police Chief I CITY OF TUKWILA WASHINGTON LCM:jry 03/28/84 ORDINANCE NO. _12 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHING- TON, PROVIDING FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE CHIEF AND ENUMERATING GENERAL DUTIES, SALARY, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION. WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the office of Police Chief should not be governed by the provisions of the City's Civil Service System, and WHEREAS, certain changes to the City's ordinances relating to the position of Police Chief are necessary in order to facilitate the removal of this position from the scope of the City's Civil Service regulations, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Office created. There is created in the City the office of Police Chief. Section 2. Duties. The duties of the office of Police Chief are as set forth in this chapter. The Police Chief, under the direction of the Mayor and /or City Administrator, is head of the municipal Police Department and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing of the Police Department This includes the planning, coordinating and supervision of patrol, investigation, crime prevention, training and all other programs and services of the department. Section 3. Appointment /Removal. The Police Chief shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the City Council, and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. ATTEST /AUTHENTICATED: Section 4. Non Civil Service Exception. The per- son holding the position of Police Chief on the date of passage of this ordinance shall continue to serve subject to, and with rights accorded by, the Civil Service ordinances of the City. Section 5. Salary. The salary for the position of Police Chief shall be set at the rate provided for in the an- nual budget adopted by the City Council. Section 6. Compliance with Applicable Laws. The Police Chief shall serve pursuant to the ordinances and regu- lations of the City and any applicable State and Federal statutes. Section 7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five (5) days after passage and publication as pro- vided by law.
