If the ventilation piping travels a distance of over 15 feet from the initial connection point or if there are more than two 90 degree turns in the total run on the ventilation piping, a buster blower maybe required. Please contact Interchange Equipment directly, advise the proposed layout of your exhaust system and we will advise of a suggested buster blower specific for your layout. 90 Dayton Ave Passaic, NJ 07055 USA • PH 973.474.5005 FX 973.473.4485 • www.interchangecorp.com MD8 Series Dryer by Interchange Electrical Schematic for Electric Powered Dryer CUSTOMER SUPPLY 250VA XFMR 1 FLQ 5A Tracking CRTT Option 502 DC DRIVE 0 BELT MOTOR KLDR 3A HOD FLO 20A 5K POT MS1 Shp (_M) BLOWER MOTOR MD8 ELEC1 Electric Page 1 000 SAFETY LSW L BLOWER PAN 0. After all applianc: ! wiring is complete, establish 115V power to the appliance and Draft Inducer with the appliance thermostat / aquastat not cal lg for heat. NOTE: If using a post -purge Relay/Timer, the Draft Inducer may operate when power is first estab- lished. Wait unti the Draft Inducer shuts off before continuing. 2. Adjust the appli2l ice thermostat/aquastat to call for heat. At this point, the Draft Inducer should start. After a slight delay, (up to 4 seconds), the at: )liance burner should fire after the PS1505 Fan Proving Switch proves draft. The delay is caused by the PS1505 Fan Proving Swi ch. If you are unable to detect a slight delay, contact Tjernlund Products, Inc. at 1- 800 - 255 -4208 for assistance. ,DO NOT OPERATI : THE APPLIANCE WITHOUT THE PS1505 PROVING SWITCH WIRED INTO THE THE EQUIPMENT CIRCUIT! 9 3. Adjust tl: a appliance thermostat / aquastat so that no heat is required. At this point the Draft Inducer and appliance should shut off. NO E: If using a P/N 950 -1067 post -purge Relay/Timer, the Draft Inducer will continue to run for an adjustable amount of time after the appliance burner shuts off. See "Post Purge Relay/Timer Adjustment" below for post purge adjustment procedure. 1. Disrupt 1 15VAC power to the Draft Inducer. 2. The pos purge Relay/Timer is marked adjustable delay control. The adjustment is made by turning the small slotted screw. Turn it counter : lockwise to increase the delay, clockwise to decrease the delay. Caution: Use care when adjusting Relay/Timer, over- turning :: djustment screw will damage Relay/Timer and void warranty. Nominal adjustment range is 1 to 10 minutes. Adequate': dmbustion air is vital for proper combustion and for safe venting. Likewise, for proper Draft Inducer performance, ade- quate coml ustion air must be available to the appliance. Many installers assume adequate combustion air is present, especially in older strucl Tres. In some cases this is a false assumption, because many structures have been made "tight" due to weatherization. Size the cc: nbustion air opening(s) into the appliance room as outlined NFPA 54 /NFPA 211. Tjernlund's IN- FORCER "' combustion air intake sysi' .ms provide a convenient, interlocked way to supply combustion air to the utility room. When installing a Draft Inducer it is not necese: try to supply any more combustion air than normally required when conventional venting. ® WARN NG The PS151: 5 Fan Proving Switch is designed to disable the appliance upon Draft Inducer failure only! It is not designed and cannot replace, re lular vent system inspection, appliance servicing and combustion testing. 1. Close al doors and windows of the building. If the appliance is installed in a utility room or closet, close the entrance door to this room. (: lose fireplace dampers. 2. Turn on all exhaust fans such as range hoods, bathroom exhausts, whole house fans and dryers to maximum speeds. Do not perate a fan used strictly for Summer exhausting. 3. Followin I the appliance manufacturer's instructions, place the appliance in operation, set thermostat for continuous operation. 4. Allow fa is and appliance to operate for 5 minutes. 5. Test for ;pillage at the appliance draft hood, draft control or draft diverter relief opening using the flame of a mai ;h, candle or smoke from a cigarette, cigar or pipe and determine the following: A) The flare e or smoke is being drawn into the draft hood, draft control or draft diverter. B) The mai t burner is burning properly, i.e. no floating, lifting or flashback. Adjust the primary air shutter(: ) and Draft Inducer Vari -Draft damper adjustment as required. C) If the al: )fiance is equipped with high and low flame controlling or flame modulation, check for proper r lain burner operation at low flame. If the draw )f the flame or smoke appears to be excessive, follow the "Draft Control" procedure outlined below. 6. Sign an I date these instructions to verify that the safety interlock / combustion air test was completed. These ins ructions must remain on premises. SIGN: DATE: The degre' of the induced draft provided by the Auto -Draft inducer can be varied by the exclusive Vari -Draft Control. Moving the lever of thy: Vari -Draft while observing readings with a draft gauge will allow setting for maximum efficiency. Oil burninc: installations and gas -fired units without a draft hood / diverter should include a barometric draft control. This should be adjusted tr: slightly open at maximum draft. The barometric control will then open further to regulate draft as external conditions change to assen effect required by the inducer. The Model ; D -3 and DJ -3 are shipped from the factory so that maximum draft is established when the unit is installed. If lesser draft is reel sired, utilize the Vari -Draft sliding damper found in the installation packet. Sliding the Vari -Draft damper further into the pipe will le .sen the draft produced by the inducer. When a n. tuber of appliances must be served by a common vent, care must be taken in establishing proper connector rise and manifold s 'e serving each appliance in the vent system. Consult the chapter on chimneys, gas vents and fireplace systems in the "Equipmer :Volume" of the Ashrae Guide and Data Book for specific requirements in a given application. 9501,067 POSTPURGERELAY /TIMER ADJUSTMENT COMBUSTION FETY INTERLOCK /COMBUSTION, AIR TEST: NTR Specific in ,tructions cannot be made concerning frequency of lubrication. Normal usage will require oiling no more than twice a year. No more 1 an 3 drops of S.A.E. 20 oil should be used. Oil holes or lances are provided at front and rear faces of motor. Units with scale' ball bearings will normally operate for years without repacking of bearings. Models DJ -3 & D -3 require no oiling. Maladjusti: d and inefficient burner operation may cause soot and hard carbon buildup on inducer wheel. This can result in an unbalance: I wheel and damage may occur to shaft and bearings, as well as reduce the efficiency of the inducer. Inspect inducer peri- odically ar i clean if necessary. Dave, Thank you for taking the time to meet with us on site to resolve the mechanical permit issues at Westfield Early Mornings. Per our conversation, we propose the following to take care of the final issues. 1. We assume the back hallway is not rated, and as such does not need a rated enclosure around the duct. We will remove the framing in the hallway. 2. We will extend the secondary containment duct from where is ends at the H &M space and extend it (air tight) through the hallway and terminate it 4" inside the Early mornings space, along the back wall. The containment duct will be open to the room, but will be sealed at the top after it penetrates the roof deck above. 3. We will install a carbon monoxide detector near the floor of the back room where the garment curing machine is located. The detector will alarm and be interlocked with the curing machine to turn it off (utilizing existing safeties installed in the unit) if CO gas is detected. 4. The existing exhaust duct will be pressure tested for air tightness. 5. A fan proving sensor will be installed on the Tjernlund booster fan (EF -34) and it will be interlocked with the curing machine to turn it off (utilizing existing safeties installed in the unit) if the booster fan fails. 6. Add access doors in the gas vent pipe, one in the vertical riser and one down stream of booster fan. 7. We will be checking the temperature around the machine the day of the inspection. 8. The equipment has a ETL label 2001037. This covers all the testing requirements to operate the machine. 9. There will be a gas shut off valve in the room for manual gas shut off if needed. 10. The unit will be grounded 11. There will be a remote unit shut off that is not located on the unit it self. Consideration is given to typically higher static pressure requirements for larger installations, for the type of fuel burned and for the type of draft control installed. 3. Some ratings may only be valid for extremely short vent lengths due to excessive pressure loss; i.e. the Model IL gas firing with draft hood in 10" pipe at 2,080,000 BTU /hr. 4. Where pressure require- ments are unknown or believed to be unusually severe, ask for complete performance curves or consult factory. 5. Draft Inducers should be installed in single wall vent pipe in order to assure proper performance. Note: Tjernlund Products Inc. reserves the right to make changes to specifica- tions without notice. IMPORTANT: Vents /Chimneys utilizing In -Line Draft Inducers must be vertically terminated above the roof line. Do not use for side wall venting. Consult factory for proper side wall vent system options. Auto- Draft Inducer Combustion Air In-Forcer Tjernlund Products also offers: Auto -Draft variable & fixed speed Inducers for roof top or side wall venting. Reduce vent diameters by up to 50% and overcome convolut- ed vent layouts. Fan speed is automatically regulated based on a user set manifold/vent pressure, resulting in perfect draft and true energy savings. Virtually unlimited capacities. Combustion Air In- Forcers provide dedicated combustion air for safer, more efficient equipment operation. Eliminates burner control lockouts & oil odors associated with backdrafting. Ideal for "confined space" and electric to oil or gas conversions. Residential and commercial fixed & variable speed capacities up to 6000 CFM available. Please address the following comments in an itemized format with revised plans, specifications and /or other applicable documentation. (GENERAL NOTE) PLAN SUBMITTALS: (Min. size 11x17 to maximum size of 24x36; all sheets shall be the same size). (If applicable) Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets shall be original signed wet stamped, not copied.) 1. The proposed rooftop exhaust fan appears to be an exterior induced draft system. No other venting systems where shown on the plan. If this is its purpose, more information will be needed to complete the plan review. Please provide the manufacturers installation specs. for the OFOI garment curing machine. We will be looking for specifics regarding required duct material, type of joints, how duct was sized and the allowed length of duct. The exhaust fan will need to be listed for this use and interlocked to the gas supply to stop the flow of gas upon exhaust fan failure. 2. The exhaust duct cannot run through a plenum if it is a draft inducing fan. Address this issue if it is proposed to do this. 3. The exhaust duct passes through a fire rated floor assembly and a one hour exit passage way. It may need to be enclosed in a one hour rated shaft from the penetration of the floor to the roof. Please verify these conditions and design accordingly or provide code sections used for the basis of the proposed installation. 4. Will the garment curing machine need combustion air? If required please show where it will come from on the plans. Should there be questions concerning the above requirements, contact the Building Division at 206 -431- 3670.
