ESNW prepared the referenced geotechnical report and has provided geotechnical consulting services during the design phase of this project. Detention Vault Recommendations The detention vault will be located towards the southwest corner of the site. Based on review of the referenced structural plans, excavations between 9 and 12 feet will be required to achieve the design bottom of footing elevation of 11.25 feet. The subsurface information in the referenced geotechnical engineering study indicates up to seven feet of fill underlie the vault location. Below the fill, native soils were encountered consisting primarily of alternating layers of loose to medium dense silt (Unified Soil Classification ML) and poorly graded sand with silt (SP -SM) with isolated layers of peat (PT) and lean clay (CL) encountered below the fill. The ground water table was encountered at depths ranging from 4.5 to 7.5 feet below existing grades. • DSA Project Management December 23, 2008 ES- 1032.02 Page 2 Given the soil conditions described above, the proposed vault should be supported on at least two feet of structural fill. ESNW recommends the structural fill consist of one to two inch clean crushed rock. Unstable soil conditions will likely be encountered at the over excavation elevation. As such, a woven geotextile fabric such as Mirafi 600x should be placed on the excavated surface prior to structural fill placement. The use of a stronger geotextile fabric may be necessary depending on the conditions encountered during construction. Field exploration indicates that the ground water table is approximately 4.5 feet above the bottom of the planned excavation. As such, a temporary dewatering system will likely be required in order for the vault excavations to be completed. Temporary measures to control groundwater seepage involve the installation of sumps to lower the elevation of the water table in the general area of the vault excavation. Plan Review Based on review of the referenced plans, the geotechnical design recommendations provided in the referenced geotechnical report have been incorporated in the site designs.
