Q ED FpF JUN 0 2 2009 Of LDI , Tukwila N cITY MAY 2 6 2009 PERMRCEId1@R VO1 Johns Manville Description Johns Manville (JM) Fesco Board is a homogenous insulation board, composed of expanded perlite, blended with selected binders and fibers. The expanded perlite contains air cells which provide superior insulating efficiency. The top surface of the board is sealed with a special TopLoc® coating to prevent excessive absorption of asphalt during the installation process. Fesco Board meets the physical requirements of ASTM C 728. Use Fesco Board Roof Insulation is intended for use as a low ther- mal roof insulation board and general purpose cover board for use over closed cell foam insulation boards in BUR, modified bitumen and some single ply roofing systems. Fesco Board can be installed using hot asphalt or mechanical fasteners. It has been rated in numerous FM Global ® 1A -60, 1A -90 and 1A -180 fire and wind - resistant systems and is also approved for use in specific Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Class A constructions and Roof /Ceiling hourly fire -rated (P design) assemblies. Fesco Board has been successfully used in a wide variety of roofing applications for over forty years. All roof edges and incomplete flashing shall be protected against water entry, particularly between work periods. When ambient temperature is below 40 deg F, care must be exercised in handling and storing POLYGLASS® membrane. Only rolls for immediate application shall be exposed to the elements. All masonry, concrete and sheet metal surfaces incorporated into the roof system shall be primed with asphalt primer meeting ASTM D-41 specification and allowed to dry prior to installing bituminous roofing materials. FOR REROOFING APPUCATIONS Remove existing roof flashings from curbs and parapet walls down to the surface of the roof. Remove existing flashings at roof drains and roof penetrations. Remove all wet, deteriorated, blistered or delaminated roofing membrane or insulation and fill in any low spots occurring as a result of removal work, to create a smooth even surface for application of new roof membranes. Existing roof surfaces shall be primed as necessary with asphalt primer meeting ASTM D -41 specification and allowed to dry prior to installing the POLYGLASS® roofing system. INSTALLATION Where a vapor retarder is required by the specifier. Follow the instructions with regard to the particular materials specified and install in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer and the requirements of the architect. POLYTHERM ®or other type suitable shall be adhered in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. See "General Requirements" section on Thermal Insulation. The insulation shall be mechanically attached directly over the vapor barrier. MEMBRANE Directly over the POLYTHERM® INSULATION install ELASTOBASE ®, with minimum 3" side laps and 6" end laps, without wrinkles or fishmouths. The base sheet shall be mechanically attached, over ISO, to the steel decking. Fasteners shall be per manufacturer specification or accepted subsitute. (see MATERIALS section above) using approximately 25 lbs. per 100 square feet. Directly over the base /ply sheet, torch apply POLYFLEX® G FR. Sheets shall be set with minimum 3" side laps and minimum 6" end laps. Areas of laps where no selvage edge is provided (cut edges, roll ends) shall first have granules heated and embedded into the compound, providing a clean surface for adhesion. The rolled membrane sheets shall be set and unrolled approximately six feet to align sheets. A propane torch flame shall then be applied to the exposed, outer surface of the roll (the membrane underside) until the surface reaches the proper application temperature, generally 350 DEG. F to 400 Degrees F. The roll is then gradually unrolled to create a continuous heat weld between the membrane and substrate. The remainder of the roll is re- rolled and installed in the same manner. There should be approximately ye to 3/8" bleed out of the melted membrane backing adhesive at the overlaps. The laps shall be top rolled using a minimum six -inch wide roller applying pressure over the laps immediately after heat weld is completed. All overlaps shall be checked and sealed. All laps of the underlying sheet shall be checked prior to installing the cap sheet. At all locations where the lap is not sealed, a trowel shall be used to open the lap, heat is to applied with the torch into the lap to melt the adhesive (on the back of the top roll) and seal the lap. Any area where a satisfactory re -weld cannot be achieved shall have a piece welded over it, extending minimum 6" in all directions beyond the unwelded seam. The rolls of membrane shall be installed perpendicular to the slope of the roof, starting at the lowest point of application, wherever possible. Laps of sheets should be installed so as to shed water with the slope of the roof wherever practical. FLASHINGS The flashing shall be installed using POLYGLASS® flashing sheets and minimum 6" wide POLYGLASS® stripping sheets. The stripping sheet shall be installed with a minimum of three inches in both the horizontal and vertical surfaces. The flashing sheets shall be installed with a minimum of six inches on the horizontal surface and extend a minimum of eight inches above the finished roof surface. The flashing sheets shall be installed by the same application method used for the roof membranes. In hot mop applications the flashing sheets may be installed by heat weld application provided the proper flashing materials are utilized. The top edge of the flashing sheet shall be secured using a termination bar (only when the wall surface above is waterproofed), or nailed 4° on center and covered with an acceptable counter Hashing. Items related to reroofing operations such as sheet metal gravel stops, roof vents, and similar items shall be incorporated into the new roof system in accordance with the recommendations described in the current issue of the POLYGLASS® "SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS" manual. IMPORTANT NOTE: Never use torch or apply torched materials to areas of combustible materials. Any combustible materials must first be overlaid with a protective barrier or alternatively Remove such materials from the location. Use common sense in the application of torches. Johns Manville (JM) Fesco Board is a homogenous insulation board, composed of expanded perlite, blended with selected binders and fibers. The expanded perlite contains air cells which provide superior insulating efficiency. The top surface of the board is sealed with a special Toploc® coating to prevent excessive absorption of asphalt during the installation process. Fesco Board meets the physical requirements of ASTM C 728. Fesco Board Roof Insulation is intended for use as a low ther- mal roof insulation board and general purpose cover board for use over closed cell foam insulation boards in BUR, modified bitumen and some single ply roofing systems. Fesco Board can be installed using hot asphalt or mechanical fasteners. It has been rated in numerous FM Global® 1A-60, 1A-90 and 1A -180 fire and wind - resistant systems and is also approved for use in specific Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Class A constructions and Roof /Ceiling hourly fire -rated (P design) assemblies. Fesco Board has been successfully used in a wide variety of roofing applications for over forty years. Per the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and/or the National Electric Code, every permit issued by the Building Division under the provisions of these codes shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the building or work authorized by such permit has not begun within 180 days from the issuance date of such permit, or if the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work has begun for a period of 180 days. Your permit will expire on 12/02/2009. Based on the above, you are hereby advised to: 1) Call the City of Tukwila Inspection Request Line at 206 - 431 -2451 to schedule for the next or final inspection.
