Mayor Van Dusen introduced Mr. George G. Gomez and offered his name to Council for appointment to the Planning Commission. Mayor Van Dusen introduced Mr. Vern Meryhew and offered his name for appointment to the Civil Service Commission. A. MOVED BY MORIWAKI, SECONDED BY HERNANDEZ, THAT COUNCIL CONCUR WITH THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT OF GEORGE G. GOMEZ TO POSITION #7 ON THE PLANNING COMMISSION. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY MORIWAKI, THAT COUNCIL CONCUR WITH THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT OF VERN MERYHEW TO POSITION #1 ON THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION. MOTION CARRIED. King County is sponsoring a "Recycling Week in November. They are encouraging local cities to participate. Southcenter Shopping Center will be having booths for business displays and he indicated that the Black River Quarry Coalition offered to help the City staff a booth. MOVED BY MORIWAKI, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, THAT THE CONSENT AGENDA BE APPROVED AS SUBMITTED. MOTION CARRIED. City Attorney Colgrove read a resolution of the City of Tukwila, Wash., accepting a petition for annexation of the Cascade View Area by the election method. MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY MORIWAKI, THAT RESOLUTION #1112 BE ADOPTED AS READ.* Of3 4 MOVED BY MORIWAKI, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, THAT THE RESOLUTION BE AMENDED TO REVISE SECTION 2 TO READ "SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORATE OF THE TERRITORY TO BE ANNEXED, AS A BALLOT ISSUE." MOTION CARRIED. *MOTION CARRIED. Vernon Umetsu, Associate Planner, explained that Planning has been reviewing the P.M.U.D. (Planned Mixed Unit Development) Chapter in the Tukwila Municipal Code. This section applies only to Commercial Zones. At this time the requirements are limited to allowing multi family in Commercial Zones to duplex structures only. Staff wants Council to review this to be sure it reflects their intent. MOVED BY BAUCH, SECONDED BY DUFFIE, TO PLACE THIS ITEM IN THE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE. MOTION CARRIED. Attorney Colgrove reported that the agreement has been signed to repair the rockeries along 57th Ave. So. Council President Stoknes reminded Council that there will be a tour of the Cascade View area on Monday to familiarize the members of Council with the proposed annexation area and some of the problems that might arise. The proposed zoning on this area will go to the Planning Commission on September 21 and then it will come back to Council along with the Cascade area wide annexation. Both the zoning ordinance and the annexation ordinance would be passed at the same time. Mayor Van Dusen asked Council if they would like to consider another method for animal control. At one time Council considered contracting with the City of Renton, but decided not to because of the cost. Our contract with King County is not costing at the present time. They get the money from the sale of the animal licenses. He suggested that Council have staff from the City of Renton present to discuss the possibility of contracting with them. It was decided that staff from the City of Renton would be invited to a Finance and Safety Committee Meeting. MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY STOKNES, THAT COUNCIL GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE LITIGATION. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY DUFFIE, SECONDED BY ROBERTSON, THAT THE EXECUTIVE SESSION BE CLOSED. MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY DUFFIE, THAT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE TUKWILA CITY COUNCIL ADJOURN. MOTION CARRIED. Ga.
