The clearance between the floor and the bottom of the installed hand -held extinguishers shall not be less than 4 inches (102 mm). (IFC 906.7 and IFC 906.9) 17: Fire extinguishers shall not be obstructed or obscured from view. In rooms or areas in which visual obstruction cannot be completely avoided, means shall be provided to indicate the locations of the extinguishers. (IFC 906.6) 18: Extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be along normal paths of travel, unless the fire code official determines that the hazard posed indicates the need for placement away from normal paths of travel. (IFC 906.5) 20: Egress doors shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort. (IFC 1008.1.8.3 subsection 2.2) 21: Dead bolts are not allowed on auxiliary exit doors unless the dead bolt is automatically retracted when the door handle is engaged from inside the tenant space. Issue: The exit path shown for the new enclosed loading dock does not comply with the current code for exiting through intervening spaces or storage areas and egress continuity potentially could be compromised. (IBC 1003.6 & 1013.2) Response: There is an existing marked exit door leading directly out on grade to the west of the loading dock with panic hardware and an illuminated exit sign above. The door was not previously shown on the submitted plans. We propose to retain this door with no modifications, allowing a clear exit out of the area. The door that the original submittal drawings indicated as an exit currently opens onto the loading dock and provides no clear path of exit. We propose to re -mark that door with a not an exit" sign and remove the existing exit sign above the door. As a further clarification, we observed that the area in question is a stockroom with staff access only. No customer service areas exit through this space. This is the only comment received.
