WASHINGTON 96004 (206) 154-0669 Dear Lynn: Per our July 28, 1981, phone conversation, we acknowledged that Entranco had been authorized to review and comment on your access roadway design in the areas of traffic performance and safety consideration. We have completed our review and concluded as follows: Typical Roadway Section 1. Based on Figure 3- 21.05(6) of WSDOT design manual, the 60 -foot radius curve is adequate, provided shoulders are added to the 24 feet of pave- ment proposed. These should be 3 -foot wide minimum. See attached sketch. 2. Based on profile design (discussed later), the speed limit should be posted for 20 mph. Providing a super - elevated section through the curve would not be necessary, but may reduce curbing for drainage. 3. Should provide asphalt curbing on shoulder to keep water from washing - across fill. Plans show little drainage improvements. 4. Guardrail should be provided as the total drop from finished roadway (elev. 20 ±) to lowest point near the wooden bridge (elev. 0.0) is approxi- mately 20 feet. Profile 1. Present design shows algebra grade break of 17 %. Even for 25 mph design speed, a 275' vertical curve is required for stopping sight distance re- quirements (based on AASHTO). This much room is not available. 2. Proposed profile change is good for 20 mph speed. See attached sketch. We believe that modification to your design as per recommendation outlined above will produce a safe and functional. facility. We intend to construct a secondary access road as illustrated in our attached drawing.
