AGENDA ITEM V B : LANDSCAPE PLAN: FARWEST GARMENT BUILDING
8:00 P.M.
A detailed landscape plan, prepared by Evergreen Services Corporation, has
been submitted for the Farwest Garment Building located at 18375 Olympic
Avenue South.
The proposed planting for the lot perimeters includes 26 Japanese Flowering
Cherry Trees that line Olympic Avenue South at 25' intervals. A variety of
evergreen shrubs are spread throughout the bed area beneath the cherry trees.
The southwest property boundary is lined with pyramidal arbovital, (a narrow
tall dense columnar plant) which provides a low maintenance screen. Lombardy
poplars line the river bank edge of the property and hydroseeding is planned
for erosion control on that side. The northeast property boundary is planted
from the front corner of the building to the street. It is lined with Western
Red Cedar trees as well as smaller evergreen shrubs.
Beside the perimeter, planting is proposed for 2 islands, one at each end of a
row of parking stalls and around the main entrance to the building, where a
few more select plantings such as Japanese Maple, Deodar Cedar, Mugho Pine, and
Red Maple are included. Raised planters are proposed for the front of the
building and.2 sections along the street.
Ivy groundcover is included throughout planting areas on the site and an
irrigation system in all beds has been proposed.
Staff recommends the Planning Commission approve the landscape plan with the
following condition:
1. Provision of planting along the north side of the building,
specific treatment to be approved by planning staff before issuance
of occupancy permit.
