THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS APPLY TO AND BECOME PART OF THE APPROVED PLANS UNDER
TUKWILA BUILDING PERMIT NUMBERS / .
1. No changes will be made to plans unless approved by Architect and
Tukwila Building Department.
2. Plumbing permit to be obtained through King County Health Department
and plumbing will be inspected by that agency (including all gas
piping).
3. Electrical work to be inspected by State Electrical Inspectors and all
required electrical permits obtained through that agency.
4. All mechanical work to be under separate permit.
5. All permits to be posted at job site prior to start of any construc- •
tion.
6. Any new ceiling grid and light fixture installation to meet
lateral bracing requirements for Seismic Zone 3.
7. Partition walls attached to ceiling grid must be laterally braced
if over eight (8) feet in length.
8. Gypsum wallboard ceiling above sals area is erquired to be a one -hour
fire resistive assembly. Ceiling construction at this area shall be
metal studs with 5/8" type "X" G.WB. Each side (same construction as
walls) OR, submit appropriate "tested" suspended G.WB. ceiling design
for approval. In either case, all recessed light fixtures shall be
tented with G.WB.
9. Any exposed insulation backing material to have Flame Spread
Rating of 25 or less.
10. All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and
requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1985 Edition), Uniform
Mechanical Code (1985 Edition), Washington State Energy Code (1986
Edition), and Washington State Regulations for Barrier Free
Facility (1986 Edition).
11. All food preparation establishments must have King County Health
Department sign -off prior to opening or doing any food processing.
Arrangements for final Health Department inspection should be made by
calling King County Health Department, 296 -4787, at least three working
days prior to desired inspection date. On work requiring Health
Department approval, it is the contractor's responsibility to have a
set of plans approved by that agency on the job site.
12. The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans, specifica-
tions and computations shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an
approval of, any violation of the provisions of this code or of any
other ordinance of this jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give
authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this Code shall be
invalid. U.B.C. Sec. 303(c).

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. * ** FIRE EXTINGUISHERS * ** - UFC Article 10 and NFPA
10
The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher
for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s)
should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry
chemical type. Travel distance to any fire
extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1)
(UFC 10.301b)
2. * ** EXITS * ** - UFC Article 12
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
(UFC 12.104b)
Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements
of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114.
EXIT signs shall be installed at required exit
doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly
indicate the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a
contrasting color with the surrounding area and shall
have letters not less than six inches high with a
minimum letter width of 3/4 ". (UFC 12.114a & 12.114b)

An automatic fire extinguishing (sprinkler) system is
required and shall be designed, installed and tested.
(City Ordinance #1141)
All sprinkler drawings shall be prepared by companies
licensed to perform this type of work. Drawings shall
first be approved by the Washington Surveying & Rating
Bureau, Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk
Insurers, then by the Tukwila Fire Department. No
sprinkler work shall commence without approved
drawings. (City Ordinance #1141 & NFPA 13, 1 -9.1)
(UFC 10.307)
All sprinkler piping shall be hydrostatically tested.
Test pressure shall not be less than 200 psi for two
hours.
Sprinkler protection shall be extended to the area
above the false ceiling if there are electrical
motors, signs or other electrical equipment.
Maintain sprinkler protection for all enclosed areas.
(NFPA 13, 4- 1.1.1) (UFC 10.302)
Contact the Tukwila Fire Department, Fire Prevention
Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests.

Local UL Central Station Supervision is required per

Electrical Inspector, Washington State Department of
Labor & Industries. (UGC 10.104)

When fire dampers are required to maintain fire
resistance of construction, fire dampers shall comply
with the requirements of UBC Standard 43 -7. (UFC
10.401)
All required occupancy separations, area separation
walls, and draft -stop partitions shall be maintained
and shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced
when damaged, altered, breached, penetrated, removed
or improperly installed. (UFC 10.401)
All interior wall covering materials shall be
fire - resistive or shall be treated to be
fire- resistive, so as to result in a flame- spread
rating as required by UFC Appendix VI -C tables 42A and
42B. A certificate of the flame spread rating is
required to be delivered to the Tukwila Fire
Department. (UBC 4204) (UFC 10.401)
In order to provide you with the fastest police and
fire protection under emergency conditions, please
post your suite, room or apartment number in a
conspicuous place near the main entry door. Numbers
shall contrast with their background. (UFC 10.208)

6. * ** GENERAL * ** - UFC, UBC, NFPA
A fire protection system is required to protect ventilating
hoods and ducts and cooking appliances including cooking
surfaces, deep fat fryers, griddles, upright broilers,
charbroilers, range tops and grills. Protection shall also
be provided for the enclosed plenum space within the hood
above filters and exhaust ducts serving the hood. That
portion of the fire suppression system required for protection
of the plenum space within the hood beyond the filter and
within the exhaust duct serving the hood may be omitted when
approved listed grease extractors are installed.
Hood above the two smokers and convection oven shall be Class
1.
Carbon dioxide, dry chemical and liquid agent (other than
water) systems shall be interconnected to the fuel or current
supply so that the fuel or current is automatically shut off
to all equipment under the hood when the system is activated.
Shutoffs, valves or switches shall be of the type that require
manual operation to reset. A readily accessible manually
activating device installed at an approved location shall be
provided for dry chemical, carbon dioxide and liquid agent
(other than water) systems. The actuation device may be
either mechanically or electrically operated. If electrical
power is used, the system shall be connected to a standby
power system and a visual means shall be provided to show that
the extinguishing system is energized.
U.L. Central Station monitoring of this fire protection system
is strongly recommended. (UFC 10.314)
A smoke detector is required for the HVAC system. The
detector shall be installed according to the provisions of
N.F.P.A. 72E. Upon smoke detector activation, the HVAC system
shall shut down sounding an audio /visual alarm horn located
at the front of the store. U.L. Central Station monitoring
of the duct detector is strongly recommended.

which are fastened to fixture ends with No. 5 by '/. in, long steel sheet metal screws before
installation. The Type SV45/24 fixtures shall be supported Independently of the grid suspen-
sion system using No. 12 MSG poly steel hanger wires located at each end of the fixture. The

14A. Alternate Fixture Protectio -Batts and Blankets' -1.1/4 in. thick, cut into pieces to form
five-sided enclosure, trapezoidal in cross-section, approx 1/2 in. longer and wider than the fix-
ture and the enclosure. Places held together by 15 SWG tie wire. When Type 5V4$/24 light
fixtures are used, fixture protection shall consist of a top piece resting on spaces. The top
piece length shall be a min of 53 in, and the width a min of 11.3/4 in. The top piece shall be
centered over the fixture and the ends allowed to drape over the fixture ends. The edges of
the top piece shall be slit as necessary to accomodate hanger wires. The spacers shall consist
of wrap places of crowtess oriented parallel to and spaced approximately 6 In. from the
ends of the light fixture and et midpoint. End pieces of batty 30 in. long by 6.1/2 in, high are
held in place against the metal end panels with No. 15 SWG pale steel wire. The wire is
placed against the end piece et about mid height and twist-tied to the hanger wires at corners
of the fixture module. In addition, the end piece shall be secured with No. 15 SWG pale steal
wire running vertically from the main runner to the light fixture hangar wire and twist-tied.

In addition I called the factory and got the
following information UL Tag # 80L8, UL File # E91026.
They are very low temperature unitsand we cook very
slowly at 180° F. There is no combustion, grease vapor
or build up. Discharge temperature is 200 °F and the
only vapor created is H20. As I mentioned we have
numerours smokers in the area and all have been approved
for Class 2 Hoods.
