1. No changes will be made to the plans unless approved by the
Architect and the Tukwila Building Division.
2. Plumbing permit shall be obtained through the King County Health
Department and plumbing will be inspected by that agency,
including all gas piping (296- 4732).
3. Electrical permit shall be obtained through the Washington State
Division of Labor and Industries and all electrical work will be
inspected by that agency (872-6363).
4. All mechanical work shall be under separate permit through the
City of Tukwila.
5. All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall be
posted at the job site prior to the start of any construction.
6. Any new ceiling grid and light fixture installation is required to
meet lateral bracing requirements for Seismic Zone 3.
7. All construction to be done in conformance with approved plans and
requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1988 Edition), Uniform
Mechanical Code (1988 Edition), Washignton State Energy Code (1989
Edition), and Washington Stae Regulations for Barrier Free
Facility (1989 Edition).
8. Validity of Permit. The issuance or granting of this permit or
approval of plans, specifications and computations shall not be
construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of
any of the provisions of this code or of any other regulation or
ordinance of this Jurisdiction. No permit presuming to give
authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this code shall
be valid.

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10.301b)
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinents, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5
ft. above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6) (UFC 10.301)
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit.

2. Exit hardware and marking must meet the requirements
of Uniform Fire Code Sections 12.104 & 12.114.
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.

doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly

indicate the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a
contrasting color with the surrounding area and shall
have letters not less than six inches high with a
minimum letter width of 3/4 ". (UFC 12.114a & 12.114b)
Exits shall be illuminated at any time the building is
occupied. An emergency system shall automatically
provide exit illumination upon failure of the main
power supply. (UFC 12.113a)
3. An approved fire alarm system is required per City
Ordinance #1327. An approved automatic sprinkler system
may be installed in lieu of a fire alarm system. (Plans
must be submitted to the Fire Prevention Bureau for
approval prior to installation.)
Local UL Central Station supervision is required.

All modifications to fire alarm systems shall have the
written approval of the Tukwila Fire Department. No
work shall commence without approved drawings. (City
Ordinance #1327) (UFC 10.301)
4. All required occupancy separations, area separation
walls, and draft -stop partitions shall be maintained and
shall be properly repaired, restored or replaced when
damaged, altered, breached, penetrated, removed or
improperly installed. (UFC 10.401)
All interior wall covering materials shall be
fire - resistive or shall be treated to be
fire - resistive, so as to result in a flame- spread
rating as required by UFC Appendix VI -C tables 42A and
42B. A certificate of the flame spread rating is
required to be delivered to the Tukwila Fire
Department. (UBC 4204) (UFC 10.401)

Dear Kim:
The Public Works Department has reviewed your site plan sheet #12 for the
subject project and approves the site plan per the following conditions and
comments. The Planning Director and Building Official shall approve the
release of these permits. Prior to beginning the work call Becky Davis,
permit coordinator, at 433 -1851 to have the following permit prepared for
pickup:
1. Sanitary Side Sewer Extension (1 - 6 inch diageter side sewer - Permit
fee = S20.00)
Per TMC 14.12.090 this permit is required for the extension of the
sanitary side sewer. These auxiliary portables are looked on as an
extension of the original primary structure.
The extension of the water service from the primary structure to serve this
auxiliary portables falls under Section 14.04.100. This extension is viewed
as a plumbing matter. The applicant is referred to the Ring County Plumbing
Inspector for requirements for this installation. Per my review of 13.04.100
no additional charges or fees are required via the City's permitting process.

Dear Jack:
A000rding to the researoh we have done with the assistance of Brad Collins,
the environmental (SEPA) permit process is not applicable for our portable
classroom projects at Thorndyke and Tukwila Elementary Sohools.
Because these buildings are less than 4,000 square feet, they are eligible
for a "threshold categorical exemption." (Please refer to WAC 197 -11 -800
(1)(B)(iii).)
Therefore, the District requests that the City waive the environmental
(SEPA) permit requirement from the building permit process in accordance
with WAC 197 -11- 800(1) (B) (iii) .

APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill
out the application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts
are available at the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal
requirements. Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coord!nator at 433 -1851 prior to
submitting application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. i nis figure wiii be
reviewed and is subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or
contractor licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent
to submit this permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of
application shall expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a
period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform
Building Code (current edition). No application shall be extended more than once.
