Prepared by Tukwila Planning Department SIGN VARIANCE APPLICATION FOR TUK-INN APPLICANT: Mr. Robert Oldright PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING DATE: 27 February 1975 LOCATION: 13050 Interurban Avenue South HEIGHT: 65 Feet From Grade FACE AREA: Double-Face = 1000 Square Feet REQUEST: 40. ., No sign variance (40' height) SALES 1971 July 15,555.87 August 15,833.37 September 14,165.60 October 14,214.25 November 13,124.26 December 14,238.65 1972 TUK INN 13050 Interurban South Tukwila, Washington 244 -9009 Jane, y 7, 1975 It is respectfully requested that a variance be granted to permit the erection of the TUK INN sign (per attached sketch) in place of the previous VIPS Restaurant sign, located on these same poles. BACKGROUND: The previous VIPS Restaurant sign was erected in July of 1972, upon approval by the Planning Commission, and would be allowed to remain if it could be shown that the sign erection caused a significant increase in business. It should be noted the proposed sign replacement is 10' x 50' in place of the previous VIPS sign size of 30' x 202'. Height of sign (top) - 65' - no change. FACTUAL INFORMATION: - Sign installed July 1, 197 - height 65'. The above figures show the installation of the sign at a height of 65' coincided with an increase of 27.6% in sales. It should be noted that both the Union Oil Company of California and Texaco Oil Company have previously been granted variances for signs of 90' in height. It is believed that the height of 65' requested for the TUK INN sign would be sufficient height (as previously shown by VIPS sign) to allow the freeway traveler visibility and the opportunity to exit from the freeway in a safe manner to enter this freeway facility. In addition, and most important to the operation of the restaurant, the increased sales allow the business to be operated on a profitable basis.
