Find enclosed two picture of the . Shell Service Station in
photograph shows the wrecked automobile storage area to the North of t_:v
station. The red car parked at an angle is intruding into the sidewalk
area. (When approached by the Tukwila Police, Mr. Crossen, operator of
the station, did move this car off the right -of -way.) Though less obvious
`n this picture, the wooden fence bordering the station and the adjacent
residence is in a state of disrepair, with one section completely broken
down. The other photograph shows the tow truck displayed adjacent to
Interurban Avenue. You will notice the Shell insignia on the door of
the truck.
It is the open on of the City Attorney that Service Stations, whose
operations include wrecked or inoperable vehicle storage, shall be
declared junk yards and thereoy be in violation of the City Zoning :ordinance.
At the present time, I am considering such action to be of a very severe
nature. It is my desire to use such means as a last resort Daly! I hope
that we might work through the organizational procedures of your company
to reach a more reasonable and attractive solution to the problem. °..s
for this reason that I called you this morning to discuss the sits:,...:
I am very pleased with your willingness to cooperate.
I understand that Mr. Crossen, operator of Crc.sen's Shell, 14100 Inter:. r1
Avenue South, feels that he is being unduely harassed by the City. I hope
that you will convey to him the fact that the City does not wish tc harass
him or any other business man. On the contrary, we wish to encourage busingse
growth to the limits of reason. However, while the City wishes to allow fob ;
individual self- determination, so ,too, must the:City protect its many other
citizens from unattractive blight.
