VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules. BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal. EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition). Rants, Mayor September 14, 1993 Fire Department Review Control #B93 -0345 (510) Re: Reliable Parts - 1051 Andover Park West Dear Sir: The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B1C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 feet above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.3) (UFC 10.505A) Clear access to fire extinguishers is required at all times. They may not be hidden or obstructed. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.5) Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout. 2. No point in a sprinklered building may be more than 200 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel. (UBC 3304(b)) Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. Exit doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted, barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. All locking devices shall be of an approved type. (UFC 12.106(c)) Obstructions, including storage, shall not be placed in the required width of an exit, except projections as permitted by the Building Code. Exits shall not be obstructed in any manner and shall remain free of any material or matter where its presence would obstruct or render the exit hazardous. (UFC 12.104(a)) Internally illuminated exit signs shall have both bulbs working at all times. (UBC 3314(c)) When two or more exits from a story are required, exit signs shall be installed at the required exits and where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the direction of egress. (UBC 3314(A)) Aisles leading to required exits shall be provided from all portions of buildings. The width and spacing of aisles shall be maintained at all times. (UFC 12.104(b)) Manually operated edge or surface mounted flush bolts and surface bolts are prohibited. (UFC 12.106(c)) 3. Refrain from blocking sprinkler coverage with shelving. NFPA standard #13 states that any shelving or decks in excess of 4 feet in width will require installation of sprinklers thereunder. New sprinkler systems and all modifications to sprinkler systems involving more than 50 heads shall have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual, Industrial Risk Insurers, Kemper or any other representative designated and /or recognized by The City of Tukwila, prior to submittal to the Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance #1646) Maintain a 3' clear space around the sprinkler riser(s) for emergency access. (UFC 10.504) All exterior components of sprinkler systems should be painted RED. This includes: Post indicator valves (PIV), outside stem and yoke (OSY), wall indicator valves (WIV) and Fire Department connection (FDC). (UFC 10.504) All sprinkler systems, fire hydrant systems, standpipe systems, fire alarm systems, portable fire extinguishers, and other fire - protective or . extinguishing systems or appliances shall be maintained in an operative condition at all times and shall be replaced or repaired when defective. All repairs and servicing shall be made in accordance with recognized standards. (UFC 10.504(a)) 4. All electrical work and equipment shall conform strictly to the standards of The National Electrical Code. (NFPA 70) An aisle to and working space shall be provided for each.electricai panel. An aisle width not less than 24 inches shall provide access to the panel and 30 inches of working space shall be provided directly in front of the panel. (NEC 110- 16(a), NEC 110- 16(c)) Each circuit breaker shall be legibly marked to indicate it's purpose. High -piled combustible storage is combustible materials in closely packed piles more than 15 feet in height or combustible materials on pallets or in racks more than 12 feet in height. For certain special- hazard commodities such as rubber tires, plastics, some flammable liquids, idle pallets, etc., the critical pile height may be as low as 6 feet. (UFC 9.110) The storage of idle (un -used) pallets is limited to six feet in height by the Uniform Fire Code. If storage quantity in excess of six feet in height is required, outdoor storage must be utilized. (UFC Standard 81 -1, 4 -4.1) In double row racks with heights of storage up to and including 25', an average nominal 6" transverse flue space between loads or at rack uprights shall be maintained. (NFPA 231C 4 -3.1) 6. Flammable or combustible liquids that are used in excess of 10 gallons total, must be stored in metal storage cabinets. No more than 120 gallons may be stored in any one cabinet (60 gallons of class I or II flammable liquids). Cabinets shall be conspicuously labeled "FLAMMABLE - KEEP FIRE AWAY ". Cabinets shall have a 2" high liquid tight lip for spill containment and shall have self - closing doors. (UFC 79.202(c)) (UFC 79. 202(2)(3)(b)(c)) 7. The Fire Prevention Bureau has determined that you have hazardous materials in use or in storage at your facility. Please provide a Hazardous Materials Inventory Statement (form enclosed) and a floor plan of your facility indicating the areas of storage. If the quantity of materials identified on your Hazardous Materials Inventory Statement exceeds the exempt amount, you will be required to prepare a hazardous materials management plan.
