APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition).
No application shall be extended more than once.

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. No point in a sprinklered building may be more than
200 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel.
(UBC 3303(d))
Exit doors shall swing in the direction of exit travel
when serving any hazardous area or when serving an
occupant load of 50 or more. (UBC 3304(b))
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
Exit doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted,
barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. All
locking devices shall be of an approved type. (UFC
12.106(c))
Obstructions, including storage, shall not be placed
in the required width of an exit, except projections
as permitted by the Building Code. Exits shall not be
obstructed in any manner and shall remain free of any
material or matter where its presence would obstruct
or render the exit hazardous. (UFC 12.104(a))
Dead bolts are not allowed on auxiliary exit doors
unless the dead bolt is automatically retracted when
the door handle is engaged from inside the tenant
space.
Exit hardware and marking shall meet the requirements

of the Uniform Fire Code. (UFC 12.106 - 12.111)
Internally illuminated exit signs shall have both
bulbs working at all times. (UBC 3314(c))
When two or more exits from a story are required, exit
signs shall be installed at the required exits and
where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the
direction of egress. (UBC 3314(A))
The power supply for the exit pathway illumination
shall normally be provided by the premise's wiring
system. In the event of its failure, illumination
shall be automatically provided from an emergency
system. Emergency system shall be supplied from
storage batteries or an on -site generator set and the
system shall be installed in accordance with the
requirements of the Electrical Code. (UBC 3313(b))
2. All new sprinkler systems and all modifications to
existing sprinkler systems shall have fire department
review and approval of drawings prior to installation or
modification. New sprinkler systems and all modifications
to sprinkler systems involving more than 50 heads shall
have the written approval of the W.S.R.B., Factory Mutual,
Industrial Risk Insurers, Kemper or any other
representative designated and /or recognized by The City of
Tukwila, prior to submittal to the Tukwila Fire Prevention
Bureau. No sprinkler work shall commence without approved
drawings. (City Ordinance #1646)
Contact The Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness
all required inspections and tests. (UFC 10.503) (City
Ordinance #1646)
3. Required fire resistive construction, including
occupancy separations, area separation walls, exterior
walls due to location on property, fire resistive
requirements based on type of construction, draft stop
partitions and roof coverings shall be maintained as
specified in the Building Code and Fire Code and shall be

altered, breached, penetrated, removed or improperly

letter dated 11/4/93 concerning the Boeing Computer Services Building
alterations.

Response: The large sliding door is to be removed and the opening is

Response: The 3068 exit door has been moved to the West to allow clear
access in front. See sheet A -1, revised 11/4/93.
Item #7 The cutting of the existing concrete...
Response: The exit corridor has been re- routed and the exit door has
been relocated to fit into a window mullion space so as not
to need a concrete cut. See sheet A -1, revised 11/4/93.

Response: No alterations are proposed to the existing ceiling except
the addition of a 1 -hour lid in the new exit corridor on
the first floor.
I have answered these comments and revised the drawings to reflect the
telephone discussion we had on 11/8/93. If you have any additional

After an initial review of the subject project it has been
determined that additional information and /or corrections must
be submitted to complete the plan review. Please address the
following comments.
1. Label all rooms or spaces for there occupancy use reflective
of U.B.C. table 33 -A, (warehouse, manufacturing, office,
storage, etc.).
2. Provide construction details of the portions of existing
walls used for the new first floor corridor. Show there
suitability for one hour construction.
3. Plans details are required to show how the proposed new
doors comply for accessible travel per WAC 51 -20 Chapter 31.
Identify on the plans lever handle door hardware, details
indicating the all widths on the strike sides of door jamb,
and any applicable design requirements.
4. No door may enter the newly proposed first floor corridor so
that the distance from that door to a dead end is greater
than 20 feet.
5. The plans indicates an existing large sliding between the
receiving area and the proposed demised warehouse. In the
closed position this door can not function as required exit
per U.B.C. Section 3303 resulting in the distance to exit
from the warehouse greater then 200 feet. Submit a
corrective design for this.
6. The door swing of the existing double doors from the
existing corridor containing the telephone closets too the
east warehouse area obstructs the entry door of the new
corridor. Provide a alternate design. ( note; the above
exiting corridor is considered non - complying. )

7. The cutting of the existing concrete wall to accommodate the
new outside exit door will require a structural engineers
signed analysis.
8. If any alteration are proposed to the existing ceiling
lighting, a lighting budget will be required for new
ceilings per the Washington State Energy Code Section 505,(
watts per square foot, allowed and proposed ).
