AN ORDINANCE creating a civil service commission for the
Town Police within the Town of Tukwila and providing for appointment
of members and prescribing powers and duties.
The Town Council of the Town of Tukwila do ordain as follows:
Section 1: Pursuant to the authorities conferred by Chapter
13 of the Laws of 1937 of the State of Washington (Chapter 41.12,
Revised Code of Washington) there is hereby created a town civil service
commission to execute the powers and perform the duties established by
such state law in connection with the selection, appointment and employ-
ment of police, including the Chief of Police of the Town of Tukwila.
Section 2: Sections 41.12.010 to 41.12.220 inclusive of the
Revised Code of Washington, three copies are on file in the office of
the F_ci:M Clerk of said tdwn' ,be, and the same are, hereby adopted by
this leference by the Tbn of Tukwila, and all cif the details and pro-
visions of said sections are hereby made a part of this ordinance as
fully as if set forth in full and incorporated herein.
Section 3: Such commission shall be composed of three members
to be appointed by the Mayor, who shall serve without compensation.
Such commissioners shall have the qualifications prescribed by Section
3 of said Act.
Section 4: All applicants for employment with the police
force of the Town of Tukwila shall be required to have the qualifications,
be subject to examinations, have a tenure of office, and be subject to
removal, as provided by the civil service regulations adopted by such
commission consistent with said Chapter 13, Laws of 1937 of the State of
Washington, Chapter 41.12, Revised Code of Washington.
Section 5: Such commission upon appointment, qualification
and organization shall hold meetings, adopt rules and regulations,
perform the duties and exercise the powers of such commission in
compliance with the State law governing the same.

Chief, who shall have served in
such position for a period of at least six (6) months last past con-
tinuously, are hereby declared eligible for permanent appointment
under civil service to the offices, places, positions of employment
which they shall then hold, respectively, without examination or
other act on their part, and not on probation; and every such person
is hereby automatically adopted and inducted permanently into civil
service, into such office, place, position or employment which such
person now holds as completely and effectually to all intents and
purposes as if such person had been permanently appointed thereto
under civil service after examination and investigation.
Section 7: The provisions of this ordinance are declared
to be severable, and if any part or section of the ordinance shall
be held to be invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not
effect the validity of the remaining parts or sections of this
ordinance.
Section 8: This ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval and publication.
