Mr. Paul Tolliver, Director of Transit for METRO, and Bob White, Manager of METRO's Capital Improvement Programs, made a presentation with the overhead projecter showing possibilities for future transportation mode alternatives. There was a question and answer period and the various projects and costs that had been presented were discussed. Marty Grisham, Tukwila Firefighter, was a member of the King County Disaster Relief Team which was the first American team allowed into the Soviet Union to assist in the earthquake's aftermath. He showed his video tapes and explained the methods of survival that were used by the rescue teams. Councilmember Robertson introduced Bob Johnson, stating he is interested in the preservation of fishing. Mr. Johnson stated there are two bills in the legislature involving recreation fishing. The bills establish certain salmon as recreation fish. Councilmember Robertson stated if there is a consensus the Council could pass a resolution supporting the presevation of salmon stocks in the Green River and it could be on the agenda of the next meeting. Mayor Van Dusen stated the Fire Station needs some modernization. It will always be one of the City's main Fire Stations. If it is delayed it will just cost more to do at another time. Fire Chief Keefe stated the drawings reflect what is needed in the building. The building does not meet building codes. The roof is sub standard, it leaks and cannot be stopped. If we had an earthquake such as they had in Armenia, it would be flattened and many lives would be lost. Councilmember Robertson suggested the City wait for three months and see the outcome of the annexation elections. We don't know the needs of the City at this time. Chief Keefe said the repairs should be done at one time on one bid with one contractor. Costs will be higher if we wait.
