The posts are designed to be uni- rsal, no lefts, no rights, and to allow beam placement on 1%" centers. The beams, with their patented attachment tabs are also uni- versal. Each beam will work in any position, front, back, or either side. They snap into place securely with just a tap of a rubber mal- let. They can be easily repositioned by taping the beam out of the slots and reinstalling in the desired location. For a semi- permanent installation, each beam has two locking tabs, which can be engaged with just a screwdriver, and which prevent accidental dislodging of the beams. The beams range in size from 12" to 97" which means that it is theoretically possible to build units ranging in size from one ft, square to 8 ft. square, or almost any size in between with- out cutting, without nuts and bolts. Depending on the product to be stored, the posts and beams alone may suffice, or a wide range of decking materials may be utilized. Probably the most common materials would be plywood or particle board, but where either usage or codes dictate, formed steel decking panels are available. Should increased capacity be required, the addition of one or more tie channels will, depending on the length of the beam, increase the capacity of a pair of beams by up to 70%. (see Capacity Charts for additional information.) When constructing rows of Lock —Span and spacing is required be- tween a row and the wall or between rows, (such as when building tire racks) there are wall ties, back spacer ties, and aisle ties to do the job. The following section on Components and Specifications covers all types and sizes of posts, beams and accessories. oov We II. LOCK-SPAN o COMPONENTS s & SPECIFICATIONS POSTS 16 ga. cold rolled steel. Each flange is 21/2" wide and roll formed to provide maximum strength as well as protecting beam connect- ions from damage or accidental dislodging. Available in heights of 3'0 ", 7'3 ", 8'3 ", 10'3 ", 12'3 ", and 15'3 ". EAMS Lock —Span beams are available in two configurations, channel and step formation. E,,ch features the patented formed tabs for easy attachment to the posts, In addition, each has the unique locking tab for semi - permanent installation. All beams may be used alone, or in conjunction with decking materials such as ply- wood, particle board, or Lock —Span Steel Decking Panels. When using a decking material, all beams at the same level within the unit should be of the same configuration. (i.e. all channel or all step type). All beams are universal in that they may be used in either the front to back or left to right position. Cataloged length is the outside dimension of the unit. 49" and 97" beams allow the use of full or half sheets of 4' X 8' plywood without trim- ming. TYPE II BEAMS 14 ga. cold rolled steel channel 2 %" high with two 1" flanges. Most economical type of bcam, yet supports substantial loads (see Capacities Section for additional Information). Available in lengths of 12 ", 18 ", 25 ", 30 ", 36 ", 49 ", 60 ", 72 ", and 97 ". TYPE III BEAMS 14 ga. cold rolled steel channel 2%" high with two 1" flanges. The top flange is lowered 3h" from the top to accept decking material in a recessed position. Load carrying capacity is slightly greater than Type I I Beams (see Capacities Section for additional information). Available in lengths of 25 ", 36 ", 49 ", 60 ", 72 ", and 97 ", TYPE IV BEAMS 11 ga. cold rolled steel channel 2'b" high with two 1" flanges. Designed for greatest load bearing capacity of any Lock —Span beam (see Capacities Section for additional information). Avail- able in 97" length only.
