This exceeds the allowable size by 200% per TMC 19.32.140(A) and TMC 19.32.150. Building facade C. Sign diagram John W. Rants, Mayor The applicant requests approval of a Special Permission sign increasing the maximum allowable size of the sign by 200 %. The exposed building face is 14,280 square feet. With approval of the Special Permission Application, the wall sign would be 450 square feet (3% of EBF) versus the normal maximum of 150 square feet (1.1% of EBF). The text appears on the face of a frame, approximately 15 feet high and 30 feet wide (see Attachment C). 6300 Southcenter Boulevard, Suite #100 • Tukwila, Washington 98188 • (206) 431-3670 • Fax (206) 431-3665 L98 -0059 Application for a Special Permission Sign Boeing 9 -08 Building Page 2 Decision Criteria TMC 19.32.140(A) allows the permitted sign area to be "increased by 50% for each doubling of the required minimum setback...but in no case shall sign area exceed that permitted in TMC 19.132.150 ". TMC 19.32.150 allows up to "a maximum of 6% of the exposed building face, up to a maximum of 500 square feet." The tenant space is setback over 160 feet (at its closest point) from East Marginal Way. This setback is 8 times the 20 foot minimum setback requirement for the MIC/H zone. As stated above, the standard allowed sign area would normally be 450 square feet (3% of the tenant's exposed building face of 14,280 square feet). Since the building is setback approximately 8 times greater than the minimum setback required for this zone, the 500 square foot maximum mentioned above would apply. However, the applicant is only requesting a 450 square foot sign. CONCLUSIONS 1. The building is setback a sufficient distance to allow for a 200% increase in allowed sign area. The proposed sign size of 450 square feet is within the allowed area established by the doubling of the setback while meeting the 500 square foot maximum indicated in TMC 19.32.150. DECISION The request, as presented in Attachments to this report, is hereby approved.
