Selection of New Councilmember ADJOURNMENT 8:10 P.M. M I N U T E S Gary 'L. Van Dusen Nol°m& Booher, Recording Secretary City Hall Council Chambers Mayor Van Dusen called the Special Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order and led the audience and the Councilmembers in the Pledge of Allegiance. MABEL J. HARRIS, JOE H. DUFFIE, EDGAR D. BAUCH, WENDY A. MORGAN (COUNCIL PRESIDENT), CHARLES E. SIMPSON, MARILYN G. STOKNES. OFFICIALS IN ATTENDANCE Maxine Anderson (City Clerk), Alan Doershel (Finance Director), Jim Haney (City Attorney), Lucy Lauterbach (Legislative Coordinator), Don Morrison (City Administrator). Doug Gibbs, Assistant Fire Chief, read his letter of resignation to the City Council, stating he has accepted the job of Fire Chief with King County Fire District #40. His resignation will be effective August 31, 1987. Successful Tukwila Days James Haggerton, audience, stated the Tukwila Days celebration gets bigger and better each year. Selection of New Council Member Interview Four applicants desiring to fill the Council position vacated Candidates by Jim McKenna were interviewed so a selection can be made by the City Council. Applicants were: Janice G. Michaelson, L. E. "Bill" Crostick, Annalee J. Crain, and John M. McFarland. MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY DUFFIE, THAT THE COUNCIL GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES TO DISCUSS THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CANDIDATES AND ANNOUNCE THEIR SELECTION. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY DUFFIE, THAT THE COUNCIL GO OUT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION. MOTION CARRIED. Mayor Van Dusen called the Special Meeting of the Tukwila City Council back to order, with Councilmembers present as previously listed. MOVED BY STOKNES, SECONDED BY HARRIS, THAT THE COUNCIL NOMINATE JOHN M. MCFARLAND TO FILL THE VACANT COUNCIL POSITION. MOTION CARRIED. MOVED BY BAUCH, SECONDED BY SIMPSON, THAT NOMINATIONS FOR THE VACANT COUNCIL POSITION BE CLOSED. MOTION CARRIED. The Councilmembers voted unanimously for John M. McFarland. Mayor Van Dusen announced that John M. McFarland has been chosen to fill the vacant Council position. City Clerk Anderson administered the Oath of Office to John M. McFarland. MOVED BY BAUCH, SECONDED BY SIMPSON, THAT THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TUKWILA CITY COUNCIL ADJOURN AND THERE BE A FIVE MINUTE RECESS PRIOR TO THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING. MOTION CARRIED.
