This will be used as the maximum evaporative rate (ER) for the flammable constituents. It can be seen that even in the extreme case where all of the liquid sprayed is volatile and all of it is captured by the exhaust that we are still well below the limit set by the 1994 UMC for flammable vapors or fumes (see table). Design Criteria According to the 1994 Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 502, a concentration of flammable constituents in air exceeding 10% of it's lower flammability limit (LFL or LEL) is considered flammable. Calculations Using equation 2.12 and Appendix B from the 20th edition of the industrial Ventilation handbook and the requirements of the UMC, the maximum ability of the equipment to handle liquid evaporation before it is considered flammable is defined by - Q _ (403)(SG)(100)(Sf) ER (MW)(LEL)(B) where Q Ventilation rate cfm (20,000) ER Liquid evaporation rate pints /minute SG Liquid specific gravity Sf Safety factor (use Sf =10 or 10% of LEL) MW Liquid molecular weight LEL Lower explosive limit (vol %) (same as LFL) B Constant B =,1 when T < =250F flammable constituents SG MW LEL Q /ER ER methyl ethyl ketone 0.805 72.10 1.81 2486 8.045 n -butyl acetate 0.882 116.16 1.39 2201 9.085 acetone 0.792 58.08 2.55 2155 9.280 toluene 0.866 92.13 1.27 2983 6.705 LFL.XLS CITY OFETUKWILA JAN 3 0 1995 PERMIT CENTER Page 1 Sheets METRO PAINT BOOTH PRELIMINARY WORKSHOP HEAT LOSS CALCULATIONS EXISTING CONDITIONS (NO ADDED INSULATION) ADD R -10 TO EXISTING WALLS U A TEMP DIFF 0 EXTERIOR WALL 0.752 2222 100 167094 EXTERIOR COLUMNS 0.752 180 100 13536 EXTERIOR DOOR 0.322 238 100 7664 , • 0.308 2402 50 36991 INTERIOR WALL 0.308 2402 50 36991 INTERIOR DOOR 0.276 238 50 3284 ROOF 0.061 1937 100 11816 ROOF BEAMS 0.061 188 100 1147 BTU/HR TOTAL HEAT LOSS 241532 BTU /HR TEMP DROP AT 20,000 CFM 11.0 DEG F ADD R -10 TO EXISTING WALLS Page 1 U A . METRO: Unit Repair Paint Facility Upgrade Contract No.T/M13 -95 Magnolia Project No. 1134 City of Tukwila Inspection Report -34qc--1 In regards to item No.2 on your January 4th inspection report, we feel that the attached information will resolve the issue of supporting the 78 inch round exhaust ductwork which penetrates through the ceiling in Bay -3. The anchor bolts which were used to support the ductwork in question are rated for a maximum Tension Load of 6,400 lbs. each. The allthread rod couplings are rated for a maximum Tension load of 12,920 lbs. each. The weight of the duct in question is supported from four (4) Anchor bolts with a combined load capacity of 25,600 lbs. (less safety factor). The estimated weight of the direct load is roughly 500 lbs. Based on the load capacities described herein and the entire assembly supported within SMACNA guidelines, we feel the exhaust ductwork is adequately supported with a comfortable safety factor. We request that the City of Tukwila reevaluate and comment on this item. Very truly yours, Magnolia Contractors, Inc.
