A ventilation unit is being added to provide fresh air for the inhabitants. This letter is an explanation of how we determined the size of the ventilation unit and how requirements for the energy code are met. There will be thirty (30) Boeing employees in the space. The requirement for outside air as listed in the Ventilation Code, chapter 51 -13 WAC, would be 20 cfm per person. The closest match in Table 3 -4 of the Code to the environment within the 2 -49 building would be For the thirty people who will occupy the 2 -49 building, the minimum requirement would be 600 cfm. The ventilation unit will be sized for 4,000 cfm to satisfy the minimum requirement, plus provide make up air for an exhaust fan which draws 2,400 CFM. The additional 1,000 cfm is for make up of two other occasional use exhaust fans for ovens that combined require 1,000 cfm. The ventilation unit will also have a steam coil. The outside air duct will be insulated to R -21. The motor will be 1 1/2 Hp with a minimum efficiency of 84% per the energy code, Table 14 -4.
