For other optional accessories see catalog. SLEEVE INSTALLATION All PTH Series units fit the same wall sleeve. The sleeve must be installed level in the horizontal plane lengthwise. The sleeve may have a slight pitch to the outside. A minimum of 31/2" clearance is recommended on each side of the unit to allow for front removal. Minimum dimensions from botton, of sleeve to finished floor is 33/4 ". Minimum interior and exterior sleeve projections are shown in the following installation illustrations. Minimum 1/4" projection to allow for a good weath- erproof seal by caulking around the perimeter of sleeve. After the sleeve is located, secured and properly caulked, re- install the closure panel if it had been removed. The panel will help to prevent indoor weather damage and may eliminate other outdoor objects from entering the wall sleeve during construction. REAR ENCLOSURE PANEL REMOVAL The sleeve stiffener must be taken out before the rear sleeve enclosure panel can be removed from the sleeve. The enclosure panel can be removed by folding the 4 flaps A (up and downward as indicated by the arrows) and manipulating the front ends of the top plus bottom towards the center. The entire panel can be pulled out diagonally from one side. SLEEVE ENCLOSURE 4 Before installing the wall sleeve condenser air grille, it must be determined if the optional wall sleeve drain kit is to be installed. The drain kit will allow the condensate from the unit chassis to be routed to a suitable area. The drain kit can be installed whereby the condensate water can be drained from the right or left hand side of the wall sleeve. See local codes re condensate disposal and optional drain kit installation instructions. Drain kit also includes indoor drain components. Install the wall sleeve condenser air grille by using the screws and holes provided. CHASSIS INSTALLATION The unit chassis and cabinet front are shipped in one carton. To gain ac- cess to the switch, slightly lift the cabinet front to disengage front from chassis flange and tilt the front forward. See pic- ture at the right, EMERGENCY HEAT SWITCH This unit is equipped with an emergency heat switch that overrides the heat pump (compressor) function and brings on resistance heat. With the switch on, the heat pump function is locked out. To engage the emergency heat, insert a screw driver into the slot and turn counter- clockwise until the switch stop is engaged. This switch should be used when the heat pump fails to provide adequate heat. The cause of heat pump malfunction should be determined by your servicer. Leaving the emergency heat switch engaged will increase operation cost. HI -COOL LO -COOL HI -HEAT ...►.M., u ...L... TEMPERATURE LIMITER This energy saving temperature limiting device pro- vides a limit to high and low room temperature set- tings. A restricted temperature range can provide comfortable temperature settings but avoid energy wasting high and low settings. Setting temperature limits is easily completed with a phillips screw driver as the only tool required. First, remove the front of the unit to allow access to the con- trol panel. Second, remove the unit control knob by pulling the knob off the control shaft. Third, lift the con- trol panel and foam pad away from the unit. Turning the knob coun- terclockwise will provide a warmer setting. Normal set- ting is with the knob pointer in the middle position. Note that the temperature limiter could limit the range of the thermostat. CAUTION: In the cooling mode ... do not turn the thermostat to .a higher setting, back to a lower and then back to the higher setting. This could cause the unit fuses to blow or cause.the compressor to cycle on the overload with a resultant of no cooling for a period of time. Wait approximately 3 minutes before returning to the higher setting. VENT CONTROL The vent control allows up to 60 cfm of fresh air to be drawn into the conditioned area. This fresh air can provide ventilation when the blower is operating, but will increase heating and cooling loads. To obtain access to the vent control, tilt the front cabinet forward and locate the vent control lever on the right side of the chassis (see below). The vent is shown in a closed position. \.. 1 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE TAKE CARE...for top performance. There are some periodic checks you must perform from time to time to assure you of top performance. If you make these checks as suggested, your Package Terminal air condi- tioner will serve you with top efficiency. KEEP THE FILTER CLEAN The PTH Series air conditioner is equipped with a large, efficient, removable, permanent (washable) type air filter. PUSH UNIT SWITCH TO "OFF" (HOLD) before removing the filter. The filter can be removed for cleaning by simply lifting the cabinet front assembly slightly to disengage it from the chassis. Tilt front forward to expose filter. The filter should be Inspected at regular intervals at least (once a month). When the filter is dirty it should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or washed with a mild detergent. The filter should be thoroughly dried before it is returned Into the unit, Also clean the wire mesh behind the filter with a vacuum cleaner before reinstalling the clean filter. DO NOT OPERATE UNIT WITHOUT A FILTER. CLEANING CABINET FRONT The cabinet front and discharge air grille can be cleaned with a mild soap or detergent. Use care when cleaning the control area ... do not use an excessively wet cleaning cloth. COMPRESSOR The compressor is hermetically sealed, permanently lubricated and re- quires no additional oiling. ANNUAL INSPECTION It is recommended that your PTH Series be inspected by your Amana dealer or serviceman at least once a year. If the unit is operated in a dusty climate, it is advisable to remove the unit from the sleeve and thoroughly clean it on a periodic basis especially the condenser coil and unit base pan.. For the unit installed at Oceanside or corrosive atmosphere, its life may be greatly reduced by the salt air or other corrosive type of environ- ment. Under these conditions, the unit should be removed from the sleeve and completely cleaned once a year. At that time any scratches or blisters on the painted surface should be sanded and repainted. FAN MOTOR LUBRICATION The fan motors are of the permanently oiled type. However, each motor has two oil ports with sealing plugs. Periodic oiling (once a year) with a FEW drops of non - detergent type motor oil will extend the operating life. CAUTION: DO NOT OVER -OIL. To lubricate the two motors proceed as follows: (a) Remove cord set plug from wall receptacle (if sub -base is used the right hand receptacle cover plate must be removed). (b) Remove cabinet front. (c) Slide the chassis completely out of the sleeve. To gain access to the fan motors, the sheet metal top must be removed from the chassis. Remove the sheet metal screws. See picture below. This temperature activated base pan drain assembly allows the condensate to drain into the sleeve at an outdoor ambient of approximately 50F.
