ON -DUTY FIREFIGHTER INJURED AT AN
ACCIDENT ON I -5 NEAR TUKWILA
This evening at approximately 5:50pm, Tukwila Fire department
responded to a single vehicle accident near the onramp to NB I -5, from
Southbound I -405. Once our crew was on location, one of the crew
members quickly made contact with the driver of the vehicle that
crashed to see if there were any injuries. While talking with the driver
of the car that crashed, a second vehicle came upon the scene and
struck the vehicle where our Firefighter was standing. Our Firefighter
was struck by the moving vehicles and sustained serious, but NOT life
threatening injuries.
The firefighter was treated on the scene by other members of the
Tukwila Fire Department and South King County Paramedics. The
firefighter was transported to Harborview Medical Center with NON -
life threatening injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was injured...
his injuries were not life threatening. The passengers in the second car
were not injured.
The response consisted of 2 Battalion Chief, 2 Engines from Tukwila, 1
Paramedic Units from South King County Medics, 1 Medic Supervisor,
2 Engine companies from Kent Regional Fire Authority, 1 ambulances
and 1 Public Information Officer.
We will be putting another press release out to update you on the
condition of our firefighter. We want to thank all our neighboring
departments for supporting us in this difficult time for our department.
Washington State Patrol is leading the investigation. Any inquiries
about the cause and parties involved will need to go through WSP.
