On Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 10:OOam, we will host a Press Conference at the
Tukwila Fire Department Headquarters Station (see address above). Tukwila Fire,
Tukwila Police, Washington State Patrol will all be available to address our media
regarding the dangers our first responders face on State and Federal highways,
including our surface streets.
As part of this Press Conference, we will have the Tukwila Firefighter who was struck on
Interstate 5 on November 29th. We will introduce the firefighter, who will speak out for
the first time publically about the incident. His family will be with him.
Our objective for the Press Conference is to address the dangers our First Responders,
(Police, Fire, Washington DOT Emergency Response Teams and Public Works) face
during incidents on our highways. WSP will have a handout with statistics regarding
collisions involving our responders in Washington State. I think you will be surprised
how often these type of accidents happen. We will also have information about the
"move over law ", which was passed on 2007, covering Washington State.
We will have a backdrop of police, fire and PW vehicles.
We ask that you arrive early enough to set up, for a 10am start time. The setting will be
open for you to arrive any time after 9 am.
