RESOLUTION NO. 1208 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING A
DECLARATION BY THE MAYOR OF A WATER SUPPLY
EMERGENCY AND ORDERING WATER USE
RESTRICTIONS.
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila purchases all water for distribution to its
customers from the City of Seattle pursuant to a water supply contract signed in 1982;
and
WHEREAS, the Seattle Water Department has determined due to abnormally
low water storage in the Cedar and Tolt River water supply reservoirs that water use
restrictions must be enforced to protect the public health and safety; and
WHEREAS, provisions in the water supply contract with Seattle require the City
of Tukwila to support Seattle water conservation programs; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila Municipal Code Chapter 14.04 authorizes the Mayor, upon
finding that an emergency exists which threatens to seriously disrupt or diminish the
municipal water supply, to order restrictions on water use so as to distribute the
available supply on a just and equitable basis to all customers, including residential,
industrial, and commercial users who purchase water;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
A water supply emergency has been declared by the Mayor and water
conservation measures in accordance with Tukwila Municipal Code Section 14.04.170
are to be enforced. Furthermore, sanctions and fines beyond these initial measures will
be determined following Seattle City Council's action.
The water conservation program and water use restrictions provided above shall
apply to the entire City of Tukwila water service area. Citizens of Tukwila who are
served by Highline Water District, Water District 125, Water District 20, Creston, City
of Renton, or the City of Seattle shall follow the restriction and surcharges imposed by
those districts. All citizens are required to observe water conservation restrictions.
