APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT if the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect'engineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition).
No application shall be extended more than once.

PLANS UNDER TUKWILA BUILDING PERMIT NUMBER ' l_p
1. No dhanges will be made to the plans unless approved by
the Architect and the Tukwila Building Division.
2. Electrical permit shall be obtained through the
Washington State Division of Labor and Industries and all
electrical work will be inspected by that agency (277-
7272).
3. All mechanical work shall be under separate permit
through the City of Tukwila.
4. All permits, inspection records, and approved plans shall
be posted at the job site prior to the start of any
construction.
5. Any new ceiling grid and light fixture installation is
required to meet lateral bracing requirements for Seismic
Zone 3.
6. Partition walls attached to ceiling grid must be
laterally braced if over eight (8) feet in length.
7. Any exposed insulations backing material to have Flame
Spread Rating of 25 or less, and material shall bear
identification showing the fire performance rating
thereof.
8. All construction to be done in conformance with approved
plans and requirements of the Uniform Building Code (1988
Edition), Uniform Mechanical Code (1988 Edition),
Washington State Energy Code (1991 Edition), and
Washington State Regulations for Barrier Free Facility
(1989 Edition).
9. Validity of Permit. The issuance of a permit or approval
of plans, specifications and computations shall not be
construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any
violation of any of the provisions of this code or of any
other ordinance of the jurisdiction. No permit presuming
to give authority or violate or cancel the provisions of
this code shall be valid.

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for
your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for
each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be
of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10 B:C) dry chemical type.
Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or
less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) (UFC 10 -1 (3 -1))
Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or in
the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on
shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6), and shall be installed so
that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5
feet above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.6) (UFC 10.301)
Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain
view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view,
they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire
Extinguisher," with an arrow pointing to the unit.

2. No point in a sprinklered building may be more than
200 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel.

Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.

Exit signs shall be installed at required exit
doorways and where otherwise necessary to clearly
indicate the direction of egress. Signs shall be of a
contrasting color with the surrounding area and shall
have letters not less than six inches high with a
minimum letter width of 3/4 ". (UBC 3314) (UFC 12.108)
Exits shall be illuminated at any time the building is
occupied. An emergency system shall automatically
provide exit illumination upon failure of the main
power supply. (UFC 12.107(a)(b))
3. All modifications to sprinkler systems shall have the
written approval of the Washington Survey & Rating Bureau,
Factory Mutual Engineering or Industrial Risk Insurers,
then by the Fire Department. No sprinkler work shall
commence without approved drawings. (City Ordinance #1528)

All sprinkler drawings shall be prepared by companies
licensed to perform this type of work. Drawings shall

1 • The Contract Agreement, Instruction to Bidders ond
these drawings shell: be a part of the Contract
Documents and thoroughly reviewed by the Contractor
and subeontractor(s) prior to the submittal of a b:d.
2. Unless otherwise stated in the Instructions to
Bidders, the Contractor shall pay for ail permit
fees, inspection fees, etc. necessary for the totcl
completion of the work as shown on these drawings.
3. The Contractor and subcontroctor(s) shall visit the
job site during the preparation of the bids and
shall verify ali dimensions and conditions in the
field. Any inconsistencies between the drawings and
actual field conditions shall be reported to the
Project Coordinator prior to the Contractor's bid
submittal.
4. Any existing fire protection or enunciator system(s)
(ie. sprinklers, smoke detectors, dorms, etc.) must
remain operational at all times sinless otherwise
approved in advance by the Shopping Center Mcnager.
(See Rules and Regulations #14.)
5. Prior to beginning any demolition of the storefront
area, the Contractor shall ensure that the
storefront barricade is moved out approximateie four
feet into the mall.
The barricade shoe be
constructed and sealed air tight with visqueen on
the side of the barricade to prevent dust from
entering the mall and adjoining tenant space in
accordance with

II. PRECONST. REQUIREMENTS
Prior to starting the work, the Contractor shall
arrange 0 pre-construction meeting between the
Shopping Center Manager and the Contractor's
superintendent at the Shopping Center offices to
review the. Rules and Regulations, Drawings and the
Construction schedule. In addition, the following
must be in the possession of the Shopping Center
Manager before any work may begin.

b. A copy of each of the local end state
building permits ( if required) and any

9. SIGNAGE. The Contractor is not ailowea to post any

Contractor shall post all signage as required by
Shopping Center Manager for public safety or genera.

10. E3E1_OW-GRADE CONTRUCTlON. Prier to beginning any
below-grade work, the Contrector shall verify the
location of ony underground utility services. Any
damage to existing underground services will be
repaired as directed by the Project Coordinator and
charged to the Contractor.
11. INTERRUP/OOF WHOP( SERVICES. The Shopping
Center Manager must be nofiflea at least 72 hours
prior to any modification to utility services that
will ternporarily interrupt the services to other
tenants or to the Shopping Center.
12. NOISY_CONSTRUCTIQN, The Shopping Center Manager
hos estoblished working hodre when the Contractor
may perform "noisy construction (check with the
Shopping Center Manager for these restricted hours.)
The Shopping Center Manager reserves the right to
order on immediate hoult to ony work that is, in the
Shopping Center Manager's opinlon, disruptive to the
normal operation of the adjacent Tenants and/or
Shopping Center.
3. -TRASH .REMOVAL. Ali trash will be confined to the
tenant space in which the work is being performed
(otherwise as directed by the Shopping Center
(Manager) and removed ct the end of each and every
day by the Contractor. Any , trash found In the
service corridors, truck dock, adjacent tenant
spaces, and/or public areas will be removed by the
Shopping Center Manager and billed to the Contractor
at a rate of 150.00 per man hour plus equipment
costs. (Any trash dumpster Iccation must first
receive the prior approval of the Shopping Center
Manager.)
Under no circumstances are the shopping Center trash
compactors to be used by the contractor.
14. SPRINKLER ..SYSTEIA. The contractor must notify the
Shopping Center -manager at least .48 hours in advance
of making any modification to the existing fire
protection Systern(s). No Shopping Center sprinkler
system will be left drained over night. All systems
will be charged and operat:onol when workers leave
for the night.
2. PROTECTION OF PROPERTY. The Contractor shall be
responsible for providing the necessary romps,
chutes, coverings, etc., as necessary, to protect
the public, the Shopping Center and ony adjacent
Tenant property from damage. Such damage may
include merchandise, furniture and fixtures, as well
as existing construction. Any and all repair of
damage to property will be performed as directed by
the Project Coordinator and at the expense of the
Contractor.
3. SITE ACCESS, MATERIAL DELIVERY AND PARKING. The
Contractor shell be responsible to coordinate all
material deliveries for the work. All deliveries
shall be mode through the service door of the tenant
space in which the work is being performed via the
adjacent truck dock and/or service corridor. AT NO
TIME WILL THE TRANSPORTATION OR DELIVERY OF
MATERIALS BE ALLOWED ETHER IN OR ACROSS THE
MALL PUBLIC AREA WITHOUT THE EXPRESS WRITTEN
CONSENT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER MANAGER.
Specific areas have been designated by the Shopping
Center Manages- for parking. The Contractor shall be
responsible to ensure that ell employees working
Under this Contract use the designated parking
areas. THERE WILL BE NO CONSTRUCTION TRAILF.RS
ALLOWED ON THE SITE.
No parking will be allowed in any of the driveways,
fire lanes, and truck docks except for loading and
unfoading only.
4. WORK AREA AND STORAGE. The Contractor's work
area will be restricted to the tenant space in which the
work Is being performed. No storage or work areas
will be allowed In the adjacent Tenant spaces. At
no time are the service corridors or truck docks to
be used as o storage or work area.

1. All work under this contract shill be installed in full accordance with
the Owner's requirements, 411 law', ordinances end regulations of the
State, County, and Municipality which in any wee affects this work.
This Contractor shall secure and piy for all permits and certificates of
- inspection required by the foresteing governmental authorities. All work
shall eleo be installed in accordance with regulations of the fire
underwriters having jurisdiction and local utiiitits.
D. 111.14Kitchanicel drawings are diagrammatic and are intended to show the
approximete location of outlets, equipment and pipins.
2. The exact location of outlets, equipment and piping may bs changed from
time to time as work progresses. Under thia contrsct all locations
shall be verified with all trades and that they are according to the
Latest information avollable. Should this not be done the work will be
changed It no additional expense to the Owner.
3. The Owner reserves the right to make minor changes in locations of
equipment or piping arrangements up to the time of rough-in without
additional cots.
4. The drawings and specifications are intended to supplement each other
and any material or Leber called for in one shall be furnished even
though not mentioned In both. Any material or laboe which is neither
shown op the drawings nor celled for in the specifications but which is
obviously 'meet:Gary to complete the work and which ie usually included
in work of a similar'character shall be furnished under this contract.
5. All existing utility and etchanical services shall be field verified -
corrections to the design and installation shall be made Without
additional cost to the owner.
6. As.part Of this work the Contractor shall submit three (3) sets of as
built drawings, one set of Sepia' indicating the exact location of all
work installed. Acceptance shall not occur until receipt of these
drawings is obtained by the Owner.
E. fj.ligitis otherwise noted, sil excess materials and debris.caused by this
work shall become the property of the contractor and promptly removed
from the site. All fixtures and equipment installed shall be thoroughly
cleaned weekly. All rooters and equipment shall be covered or otherwise
protected from construction dust and debris. No equipment other than
those designed to are to be exposed to inclement weather.

1. All labor and materials furnished under this contract shall be
guaranteed for a period of one (1) year from date of final acceptance by
the Owner which will commence upon the final inspection by the Engineee.
During this time. all leaks, correction of all the failures to such
material end the correction of all disceepancies with drawing codes and
the specifications shall be done under this contract at no additional
expense to the Oener
II. SPRINKLER, SYSTEM
A. GENERAL
1. The work shall include a renovation of an existing sprinkler system per
plane and specificatioes. governing codes and underwriters regulations
and as follows:
a. Sprinkler system shall be designed and installed as required from
'existing system.
b. System shall be installed In compliance with Owner's standards,
Owner•s insurance carriers requirements, P.M., NITA, Local Fire
Department, State and Local Codes.
c. All • above sround sprinkler piping shell be steel. Also sec
original Mall specification: utilize the More steingent. System
shall bi designed an installed per NPPA-13 u.sing. unless
neherwild indleated on drawings, the ordinary hazard pipe schedule
guide.
2.
All sprinkler pipe shall be so installed so that the system 'an be
drained in the sprinkler rooms or other areas approved by the Engineer
in W Method approved by the Engiaeir.
3. Before work is begun, six (6) este of shop drawings and equipment
apeeificetione ehell b� seheitted or •pprovai to the Architect,
Engineer, Owner's insurance underwriter (F.M.), fire department and all
other approving bodiee. Submit one reproducible sepia to Engineer with
shop drawing. Concealed piping for sprinkler shall be installed in
areas With finished ceilings. Purnish and install necessary hangers and
miscellaneous steel for supporting the sprinkler piOing.
4. Hanger for sprinkler piping 3" and larger adjustable cleeis type of the
same Material as pipe they are supporting. Renate shall be spaced
maximdm of 5'e0" on centers and are to stretched to joist within 6" of
jelitt'panel point drillings Or melding to joist in not pereitted. Pipe
4" and larger routed parallel to joist are to be located between and
supported from two joist with 12 gage ueistroi spaced s maximum cf 5.-0"
on Centers located within 6" of joist panel points.
S. Upright heads to be brass - 165 degrees P Central model A. Pendant
heads are to bo polished chrome 165 dagreec Central model A with one
piece 1/8" deep, 3 1/4" diameter polished chrome escetcheots.
6. Install heads accurately aligned and symetrically with respect to built-
ire lighting and sound fixture, ceiling suspension system, and any and
all other built-in devices in the ceIling. Use "p" bend, if neceosary,
to ec•omplish this. NOTR: Ceiling elevations will not be altered to
accommedate the sprinkler system.
7.. 'The Mell-Management, Central Station Contractor (i.e. ADT, etc.),
Protection Mutual and the local fire depectment nest be notified at
least 4.11 beers prior to making any modifications to the existing fire
protection system(). Work shell be coordinated so that only one (1)
riset or bulkisein is shut-down for any given time. Sprinkler eyetem(s)

Sprinkler Systems for additional requirements.
DUCTWORK AND ACCESSORIES •
1. Ductwork and Accessories hall be fabricated and 'install- in strict
accordance with the 'Stoat edition of SMACNA except as herein noted
and/or es detailed on the drawings.
a Piberglass Duct Board shall not be utilized. Ductwork. plenum,
etc. shall be constructed of sheet metal.
b. Raditre elbows, 1/3 radius or full radius are to be utilized except
within 20 feet of an air outlet; 1/3 radius elbows shall have a
turning vane one gage heavier than duct construction.
c. All duetwork dimensions indicated on plans are clear inside
dimensions. Where duets are linee, ductwork is to be increased to
maintain that free area.
d. Mitered offsets greater than 30 degrees in either direction shall
not be permitted.
e. Volume eismpere *hall be single blade up to 6" in width and multi-
.
blade for larger sizes. Volume dampers shall have end bearings .
and shell incorporate locking type indicating adjustment.
f. Duct Hanger - Where ductwork exceeds 36 in the largest dimension
trapeze hangers shall be utilized.
2. All new supply air dudtwerk and all outside air ductwork shall be
insulated with '1' thick foil faced fiberglass duct insulation. Where
existing duct insulation and/Or vapor bereiereis damaaed, it shall be
repaired as specified here. .
a. Insulation shall be adhered to.the bottom and sides of duct
surface, except insulation patches less than our (4) square feet,
with duct insulation adhesivi. The entire metal surface shall be
coated by brush or sprayed With duct insulation adhesive:
Insulation shall be pressed firmly into adhesive.
b. Replace damaged insolation-mhieh Oonnot be repaired
satisfactorily, including units with vapor barrier damage and
moisture saturated units.
Insulation Installer shell advise Contractor of required
Protection for insulation work during remainder of construction
period, to avoid damage and deterioration.
3. Pire dampers shall be U.L. approved and installed per manufacturers
requirements for a UL, approved installation. Pire dampers shall be the
type which have the blades and frame Completely out of the airstream
where space permits.
4. Double thickness insulated access door* shall be provided at all fire
dampers for access to fusible link. Door 0411 be sized to allow for
easy service and accessibility. In smaller ducts access doors shall be
24" in the longest dimension.
5. Where ductwork is indicated to be capped, furnish and install a. minimum
of a 20 gauge galvanized sheet metal cep to be secured and sealed to
duct with sheet metal screws and duct tape.
