APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request b the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uf_1 brrn 'Puiioirj t:odL q �arc nt edition).

Dear Sir:
The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by
The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the
following concerns:
1. Install the following quantity of 2A, 10 B:C
"All- Purpose" dry chemical fire extinguishers: (one)
Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout.
2. No point in an unsprinklered building may be more than
150 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel.
(UBC 3303(d))
Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without
the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort.
Exit doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted,
barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. All
locking devices shall be of an approved type. (UFC
12.106(c))
Obstructions, including storage, shall not be placed
in the required width of an exit, except projections
as permitted by the Building Code. Exits shall not be
obstructed in any manner and shall remain free of any
material or matter where its presence would obstruct
or render the exit hazardous. (UFC 12.104(a))
Dead bolts are not allowed on auxiliary exit doors
unless the dead bolt is automatically retracted when
the door handle is engaged from inside the tenant
space.

strictly to the standards of The National Electrical Code.

occupancy separations, area separation walls, exterior
walls due to location on property, fire resistive
requirements based on type of construction, draft stop
partitions and roof coverings shall be maintained as
specified in the Building Code and Fire Code and shall be
properly repaired, restored or replaced when damaged,
altered, breached, penetrated, removed or improperly

Dear Mr. Benedicto.
I have been contracted on behalf of Mr. Jim Gailey of George Brazil Services to provide
the Tukwila Building Dept. with the drawings and information necessary to satisfy the
requirements of this permit. To that end, let me respond point by point to those concerns
expressed in your October 25, 1993 letterto Mr. Gailey.
1) Refer to the drawing shoot for these items. The overall building plan is shown at
the scale of 118 "= 1' -0 ". The part of that building operated by George Brazil Services is
outlined with a heavy dashed line. Fire egress doors are indicated with a dark triangle.
2) Also on the drawing are a plan and sectional elevation of the office addition at
114 " =V -0 ". There is also a transverse section at a larger scale showing the structure in
greater detail and with labeled construction materials.
3) All energy items listed here should be resolved by designating this office area as
an "unheated space ". Since the heating system is under the prescribed 1 watt per
square foot, it justifies this designation. This office's function of interacting with the
service and delivery personel make it impossible to be a separate and enclosed office
space.
4) Since the initial inspection, the equipment which had been temporarily stored on
top of this office has been removed and will not be replaced. The top of this space has
thus been designated as a "non- storage area ".

5) * As described above, since there will no longer be any superimposed loads onto
the top of this structure. the calculations to justify the structural capacity of this area
should no longer be required.
6) This item directs M L Gailey to make accessible those areas of the completed
office necessary to demonstrate compliance with code items. Specifically. these items
are framing, Insulation, drywall fastening, electrical rough -In and electrical final
inspection. Following is the narrative proposal requested to describe how these areas
will be made accessible for the building inspector.
FRAM ING The framing Is arranged as Indicated on the office plan and sectional
elevation of the drawing. The wall framing can be verified by the visible drywall dimples
visible on the outside of the south office wall, indicating that the drywall was fastened to
studs c@@ 16" O.c.
The ceiling framing can be verified in either of two ways: 1) By visually examining the
framing of the platform which is west of the office area whose exposed structure is visible
from below (2x8's @ 16" o.c. hung between the lengthwise running 4x10 beams with LU
28 Simpson hangers) or 2) By visual examination of the ceiling structure as revealed by
removing a sheet of 3/4" plywood from the top of the office. Otherwise, the location and
method of attachment for the beams & columns is already exposed in the platform area
west of the office. Since there are to be no superimposed loads on this structure due to
the removal of equipment from the "roof' area, the existing structure should be adequete
and foundation calculations unnecessary.
INSULATION Since this office area will now be classified as "unheated ". the level of
insulation may be irrelevant. However, it is my understanding that the office was given
fiberglass batt insulated walls to R -11 and ceiling to R -19. If required, a typical portion
of the wall or ceiling can be removed to expose the insulation during the inspection.

DRYWALL FASTEN ING The dimples still visible on the south wall exterior show how
frequently the drywall is fastened.
ELECTRICAL ROUGH -IN & FINAL INSPECTION The electrical inspection will be
handled by the Department of Labor & Industry, and that permit will be in hand when
your inspector arrives. If there needs to be separate verification by your inspector, those
sections that were removed to satisfy the Dept, of Labor & Industry inspectors will not be
covered up before your final inspection.
OTHER CONCERNS It is my understanding that another concern is the height and
stability of the storage racks and that Mr. Gailey's earlier drawing has satisfied those
concerns. I can verify that the top shelf of these racks is 6' -5" above the floor and that
even the bracing used to stabilize these racks does not exceed 8' -0" in height.
